Postion Summary

The Billing Manager provides tactical leadership to the account representatives in the billing department. The manager coordinates the day-today operational aspects of the billing department including: reviewing accounts, collecting payments, and verifying all information and documentation necessary for timely billing of patient accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Submitting primary, secondary, and tertiary claims to insurance carriers. 
  • Resolving insurance claim denials. 
  • Reviewing and monitoring insurance reimbursement for consistency with contracts. 
  • Processing monthly statement billing for patient balances. 
  • Posting payments from insurance carriers and patients. 
  • Applying co-payments, co-insurance, and deductible amounts to patient accounts. 
  • Responding to physician, patient, and insurance carrier questions and requests for information. 
  • Evaluating patient demographics for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Process patient phone payments. 
  • Monitor and resolve financial discrepancies. 

Administrative Duties

  • Creates and provides billing staff weekly revised work schedules as needed and executes scheduling changes as necessary
  • Holds regular billing staff meetings
  • Participates in work groups, teams, task forces and committees to support ongoing improvement in billing operations
  • Approves/denies staff requests for time off with pay/without pay
  • Executes all new or revised policies and procedures
  • Addresses patient complaints, prepares incident reports, prepares unusual occurrence reports, prepares other billing reports as requested, and any matter requiring attention in the billing department

Classification 

  • Full-time position

Salary 

  • $30-35 per hour starting wage depending on experience, with opportunity to move to salary

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent technical training with some additional education (i. e. computer training, communication classes, etc.)
  • Medical billing and/or coding certification or degree, preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Talents

  • Demonstrate a positive demeanor
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • Thorough understanding of insurance billing requirements for all federal, state and local agencies and third party submissions
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Typing, data entry, 10-key, and word processing
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Experience with facility billing and coding
  • 3-5 years computerized medical billing or related experience
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medi-Cal reimbursement processes
  • Basic knowledge of accounting procedures and computer based accounts receivable systems
  • Thorough understanding of HCFA 1500 and UB-04 billing required; basic understanding of coding

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear
  • Sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
Salary Description
$30-35 starting wage, depending on experience
