Job Description:

Supports the safe transportation, supervision, and care of children. Serves as the bus monitor while children are being transported, supports safe and efficient loading and unloading at multiple CPCD locations, and maintains accurate child accountability throughout the route. Because this position supports a multi-site route, classroom assignments may vary based on program needs.  


Pay: $22.30/hr. 


Split Shift Schedule: 6:30am - 8am and 3pm - 5pm

CPCD is committed to the comprehensive early childhood development model, which is at the basis of its successful Head Start and Early Head Start programs. CPCD serves just under 1,200 prenatal through five-year-old at-risk, low-income and special needs children and their families. We operate classrooms in six school districts all throughout El Paso County.

Requirements

Required:  

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and medication administration certification within 90-days of employment and maintain as required.
  • Must be able to lift/carry/manipulate up to 40 pounds. 
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, TB test, drug test (including marijuana), and background check in accordance with the Office of Head Start Performance Standards and Childcare Licensing. (Physical examination and TB test thereafter as required).
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and if using a personal vehicle must maintain minimum liability insurance as determined by the State of Colorado. 

Preferred:  

  • At least one year of successful work experience with children birth to age three and/or to age five.  
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities


Transportation and Bus-Monitor Responsibilities

• Serve as the assigned bus monitor on a multi-site route and work collaboratively with the bus driver to ensure children are transported safely and according to CPCD procedures.

• Maintain active supervision of children at all times while boarding, riding, and exiting the bus. Remain alert to children’s location, behavior, health, and safety throughout the route.

• Use required attendance, sign-in/sign-out and child-release procedures to account for every child at each stop and site transition.

• Assist children with safe boarding and unloading, including use of steps, handrails, adaptive equipment, and other supports as needed.

• Confirm that children are seated appropriately and that seat belts, child safety restraint systems, and other transportation equipment are properly secured and used in accordance with training and applicable requirements.

• Support safe behavior on the bus by reinforcing expectations and using positive guidance strategies appropriate to each child’s age and developmental needs.

• Coordinate with drivers, classroom staff, site staff, supervisors, and authorized family members to support timely departures, arrivals, transfers, and child-release procedures.

• Follow established procedures when a child is absent, a caregiver is not available at a designated stop, a route is delayed, or another transportation concern arises.

• Support the Bus Driver in required pre-trip and post-trip child checks and Work collaboratively with the bus driver to complete and document required post-trip inspections. After children exit at each final destination, physically walk through and check all seats, floor areas, and other spaces to verify that no child remains on the vehicle.

• Assist with emergency evacuations, drills, illness, injury, behavioral concerns, or other incidents occurring during transportation. Immediately report concerns and complete required documentation.

• Maintain transportation records accurately and promptly, including attendance and child counts, authorized-release information, incident reports, and other route documentation.

• Help maintain a clean, orderly, and safe bus environment and report damaged equipment, unsafe conditions, or vehicle concerns to the driver and appropriate supervisor.

• Protect the confidentiality and dignity of children and families while communicating in the shared transportation environment.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding all children, families, and staff by safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring it is shared only with authorized personnel.

• Adhere to organizational policies on privacy and data protection, ensuring that any discussions or records concerning children's progress, behavior, or family circumstances remain confidential.

• Ensure confidentiality is observed in all communications, including face-to-face, written, and electronic formats

Salary Description
$22.30/hr.
