Position Summary: The Co-op’s Mercantile Team Members are responsible for providing excellent customer service to every customer, from the time they enter the department through the checkout experience. This includes acknowledging and greeting every customer, actively offering friendly and attentive assistance, communicating clearly, creating a welcoming, respectful environment for all shoppers and providing an accurate and efficient transaction at the register. Team members cashier, receive and price incoming orders, report stock discrepancies, merchandise products in a cohesive and visually appealing manner, and refill the sales floor. Additionally, team members maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized department, while consistently keeping customer satisfaction as their top priority.

Wage Range: $19.00-$24.00 per hour

Open Availability, Weekends required

 Primary Duties: 

· Provides the highest level of customer service for each customer at all times

· Maintains an empathetic, positive, and professional attitude

· Has knowledge of products in the department, product location, current prices, and product knowledge 

· Accurately checks in and prices orders

· Merchandises product in an organized manner

· Assists in cleaning the department and equipment, as needed

· Stocks product as needed

· Communicates concerns and ideas to manager

· Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

· Previous customer service experience preferred; cashiering experience a plus

· Demonstrated ability to provide excellent, professional customer service, including projecting a friendly, outgoing presence and maintaining a respectful, positive demeanor at all times

· Ability to manage multiple demands, remain calm under pressure, think quickly, prioritize effectively, and problem-solve within established guidelines

· Ability to work in a cooperative environment where teamwork, compassion, and clear communication are essential

· Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly

· Ability to meet expectations for regular, reliable, and predictable attendance

· Must be at least 18 years of age

Essential Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time

· Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotational movements

· Continuous use of fine motor skills, including repetitive hand and grip motions

· Ability to regularly lift and carry 20–40 lbs

· Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals
