Position Overview:

Children’s Home Society of South Dakota is seeking a Director of Compliance to ensures that the agency adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations, licensing requirements, and accrediting standards related to the delivery of services across residential treatment, outpatient clinics, school services, domestic violence shelter and other community-based programs. This role will be responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance programs, policies, credentialing and procedures that support regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, provider credentialing, and continuous quality improvement. What You Will Do:


Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, licensing requirements and accreditation standards as well as industry standards and best practices for all programs.
  • Coordinates the development of compliance with COA accreditation requirements for CHS programs. 
  • Collaborate, assist in coordinating and preparing for audits, inspections, and reviews conducted by governmental and accrediting agencies.
  • Track changes in laws and regulations affecting the agency programs and communicate relevant updates to staff and leadership.
  • Ensure corrective action plans and follow-up activities that result from audits, licensing reviews, accreditations findings or regulatory inspections are completed. 

Credentialing Responsibilities:

  • Verify and Maintain Credentials: Confirm the accuracy of provider licenses, certifications, education, and work history.
  • Manage Enrollment & Recredentialing: Prepare, submit, and track initial and re-credentialing applications with insurance payers, hospitals, and regulatory bodies.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Track license, DEA, and board certification expirations; initiate timely renewals to avoid service disruptions.
  • Data Management: Compile and maintain current provider data in online credentialing databases.
  • Documentation & Audits: Maintain copies of all required credentialing documents (licenses, malpractice coverage, CME records) and audit applications for completeness

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Assist in developing comprehensive policies and procedures to ensure compliance across all programs.
  • Ensure policies reflect current best practices and meet regulatory requirements for programs.
  • Guide leadership on the organization's program compliance policies and provide ongoing education.

Program Risk Management and Quality Improvement:

  • Identify areas of program compliance risk and assist leadership in developing strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Review compliance-related incidents, audits, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Respond to compliance-related concerns, complaints, or breaches in a timely manner, including investigating and addressing allegations of non-compliance.
  • Facilitate follow-up and documentation related to corrective actions, accreditation findings, licensing deficiencies, and compliance improvement initiatives.
  • Support agency quality improvement initiatives and ensure documentation required for compliance and accreditation activities is maintained.
  • Coordinate licensing applications, renewals, inspections, and plans of correction related to programs.

Training and Education:

  • Collaborate with Department Directors to develop and deliver regular compliance training for staff at all levels to ensure understanding of regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and best practices.
  • Stay updated on changes to regulations and best practices, ensuring training materials reflect current standards.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain records of compliance activities, including audits, corrective actions, training, and policy updates.
  • Generate reports for leadership, funders, and external partners regarding compliance metrics through the Business Intelligence Analyst and outcomes given by leaders. 
  • Ensure that all documentation and reporting meet the requirements of regulatory and funding bodies.
  • Facilitate quality assurance meetings and maintain QI data including project improvement plans throughout the agency. 

Collaboration and Support:

  • Collaborate with various departments (clinical, administrative, human resources, etc.) to support the development and implementation of compliant practices across the organization.
  • Provide guidance and support to leadership on complex compliance issues, offering solutions to enhance operations while remaining compliant with regulations.
  • Partner with program leaders to promote continuous readiness for accreditation reviews, licensing inspections, and regulatory audits.

Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Health Administration, Public Health, Law, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in compliance or regulatory affairs, preferably in a behavioral health, non-profit, or human services setting. 
  • Experience working with community mental health, residential treatment, school programs, outpatient clinics, and/or domestic violence shelters is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to behavioral health, domestic violence, and mental health services.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, etc. Extended PC viewing and keyboarding required. Extended periods of sedentary work required.
