Description

The Writer/Editor will assist with general reviewing, writing, editing, and researching duties. This is an entry-level position, though experience is preferred. The Writer/Editor edits biblical, scientific, theological, and historical articles, book chapters, and other content items to ensure the Answers in Genesis (AiG) positions are maintained. The current style guide is a variation of the Chicago Manual of Style with AiG-specific styles applied, while maintaining the author’s voice. This position will also require research in the library, Internet, and other forms of media, journals, books, etc. to acquire quotes and other information needed to ensure content accuracy and fact checking. Some writing will also be required. 


This position will assist and report to the Manager of Special Projects. The position requires developing written content and reviewable written content through a review process, contractual process, coordinating with the content manager, editorial review board, a diverse team of content reviewers and editors to ensure the timeliness and integrity of the content. This position requires a person with editorial skills and at least a bachelor's degree—with a science or engineering field with experience in technical and laymen writing. Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis.
  • Create a SERVE culture environment in all work done. 
  • Ensures proper editorial protocols including project management software and tracking. 
  • Review content for grammar, scientific, historical, and theological fact checking. 
  • Coordinate with the manager in sending the articles, chapters, and other pieces of content through the review process to approval. 
  • Help assign tasks to authors, reviewers, web content developers, and others as necessary to get content reviewed, prepped, and published for the project at hand.
  • Research projects as assigned. 
  • Assists other departments with occasional editing. 
  • Assists in certain writing projects as needed, such as chapters and articles. 
  • And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. 
Requirements
  • Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Familiarity with editorial policies and style guides. 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, work well under pressure, and produce results. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Attention to detail in composing and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines. 
  • Trustworthiness to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. 
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. 
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities and ability to use time efficiently. 
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Adapts easily to changes in the work environment, manages many competing demands, and can work through projects that have short notice, frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. 
  • Willingness to work off-hours as necessary if the need arises.

Education & Experience

  • Must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in science-related field.
  • Technical and laymen writing experience.
  • Superb editorial and writing skills.
  • 2+ years of experience in project management and/or editing, helpful but not required.
  • Experience with project management software and web apps.
