Description

The purpose of the Assistant Meat and Cheese Manager positions is to oversee the quality, selection, pricing, promotion, training and stocking of meat, seafood and cheese products to meat department objectives for sales, margin, turns, labor and customer service. To ensure a clean, growing, and well maintained meat and cheese department with exceptional quality.


Essential Responsibilities and Functions

• Provide and model exemplary service to customers and co-workers using established customer service standards

• Provide product information and educational materials to customers, answer questions

• Build a cohesive leadership team that models our culture values and policies, promotes teamwork and delivers results

• Treat all co-workers with consistency and fairness and ensure that communications are clear, direct, and respectful

• Work closely with the PFD Manager to hold whole Co-op vision and execution standards

• Create and implement a continual training program for operational cross training and product knowledge

• Collaborate with peers to develop work plan and labor schedule within budget and to attain maximum productivity

• Monitor performance to ensure all staff follow department policies and procedures, intervene and assist where necessary

• Follow accountability procedures as needed using established systems and policies

• Ensure employees have the tools, training, information and support they need to be successful

• Manage all department activities related to ordering, production, packout, pricing, stocking and rotation of product to ensure     department products meet standards of quality, consistency, look and taste

• Assist in ordering, receiving, display and sale of all products in accordance with quality and merchandising standards 

• Research and improve systems to increase sales and margin, reduce shrink and maintain workplace and food safety

• Ensure food safety practices and product rotation to attain good shelf life and safe product for customers

• Weigh, wrap, price and package according to specifications

• Complete cut tests and assure that meat is cut to maximize yield and margin

• Maintain effective working relations with suppliers 

• Evaluate suppliers as necessary and recommend new suppliers that meet our requirements

• Plan and maintain clean, attractive, fully stocked and fronted cases, ensuring seasonal changes and feeling of abundance

• Stay abreast of current trends, prices, new product and merchandising, emphasizing the natural foods industry sector

Requirements

• Familiarity with natural foods, vegan and vegetarian cuisine as well as organic vs commercial growing practices

• Meat Cutter certification or equivalent experience

• Regular, predictable attendance

• Available to work weekends, holidays, mornings and nights 


Preferred Experience 

• Min 5 years’ retail meat manager experience including buying 

• Min 5 years’ retail cheese manager experience including buying 

• Min 2 years’ supervisory experience-hiring, training, evaluating, and directing

Salary Description
$60,405.80 - $83,000
