The Calais School is a non-profit state-approved provider of special education for students with special needs in Whippany, NJ. The school serves students in grades K through 12 Plus with multiple learning disabilities.


We are currently seeking a Maintenance Worker to maintain the school building and grounds to be in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of The Calais School. 


DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition. 
  • Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds. 
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects. 
  • Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings. 
  • Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools. 
  • Act as a substitute custodian when necessary. 
  • Observe district policies at all times. 
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques. 
  • Maintains responsibility for being a contact for vendors and contractors.
  • Is available as a contact for emergency related issues after 3:00 pm.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Administrative Staff.



Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Experience working as a maintenance worker, preferably in a school environment.
  • Black Seal Low Pressure Boiler License
  • CDL license is a plus (to be able to substitute as needed for current bus drivers)

COMPETENCIES -- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to perform a variety of basis maintenance tasks using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and follow repair and instruction manuals.
  • Effective communication skills, oral and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with staff and clients in a professional manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs during emergency drills or situations.
