Description

Position Objective:

To lead strategic efforts advancing non-animal approaches for use in government-mandated toxicity testing. This job is right for you if you are a solution-oriented scientist who enjoys communicating and collaborating, and has a passion for replacing tests on animals. 


Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

• Independently research, interpret and make recommendations on topics related to replacing animal testing required by regulatory agencies

• Identify potential collaborators and partner with scientists on projects that advance the use of non-animal approaches 

• Lead scientific discussions with Fortune 100 companies and government agencies, and present at scientific conferences 

• Identify opportunities to provide public comments that promote non-animal approaches and lead the writing and presentation of these comments

• Plan and execute workshops, webinars, and other educational opportunities for scientists

• Write and analyze peer-reviewed articles and other technical papers 

• Translate scientific terminology into lay terms for the public, donors, and reporters 

• Provide input on strategic plans for the Regulatory Testing Department 

• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

• Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology, molecular biology, or a related field

• Three years' experience at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Center for Veterinary Biologics, or a chemical, pharmaceutical, or medical device company regulated by one of those agencies is preferred

• Support for PETA's philosophy 

• Extensive knowledge of animal and non-animal toxicity tests

• Familiarity with OECD test guidelines and regulatory requirements

• Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of scientists and the public

• Attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and ability to meet tight deadlines

• Exceptional writing and research skills

• Exceptional communication and public speaking skills

• Professional appearance 

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times 

• Ability and willingness to travel as well as an in-home office for working remotely

• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving experience, and a satisfactory driving record 

• This position requires proof of the COVID-19 full vaccination

• Management experience preferred
