In House Repair Technician
Job Type
Full-time
Description

If you like fixing machines and hate being stuck in a back room where nobody sees your work, this is your bench. You'll be the in-house repair technician at our Orlando showroom — diagnosing and repairing commercial floor machines, vacuums, and cleaning equipment for customers who depend on that equipment to run their businesses.

About GEM Supply

GEM Supply is a family-owned janitorial and cleaning supply company serving businesses across Florida and Georgia. Our Orlando megastore is where cleaning contractors, schools, property managers, restaurants, and facility teams come to shop products, see equipment in action, and get their machines serviced. We've built our reputation on people who show up, execute, and take care of customers the right way — and we invest in the people who make that happen.

About the Role

You'll own the repair operation inside our Orlando showroom: a customer brings in a floor scrubber that won't run, you diagnose it, fix it, test it, and get it back to them on the date you promised. Your bench is visible to customers, so your work is part of the showroom experience. When the floor gets busy, you'll step out and help customers too — this is a customer-facing role, not a warehouse job. You'll train alongside company leadership for your first months and report to the Showroom Manager once the team is fully up and running.

What You'll Do

  • Intake, diagnose, repair, and test commercial cleaning equipment — floor scrubbers, buffers and burnishers, carpet extractors, commercial vacuums, and pressure washers.
  • Own the repair queue: set realistic promised dates, hit them, and keep customers informed on status.
  • Log every job — customer, equipment, work performed, parts used, charges — and maintain the bench parts inventory.
  • Back up the showroom floor during busy periods: greet customers, answer equipment questions, help at checkout.
  • Keep the repair area safe, organized, and presentable — customers can see it.
Requirements

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Hands-on mechanical and electrical repair experience — motors, pumps, belts, batteries and chargers, switches, or small engines. Any background counts: equipment repair, appliance repair, automotive, HVAC, or serious hobbyist work you can demonstrate.
  • Real diagnostic ability — you can figure out why a machine doesn't work, not just swap parts.
  • Organized work habits: multiple jobs in progress, each one logged, nothing lost.
  • A customer-friendly manner — you'll explain repairs to non-technical customers and help on the sales floor.
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs and move heavy equipment safely.

Nice to have:

  • Experience repairing floor care or janitorial equipment (Tennant, Advance, Clarke, Karcher, Windsor, ProTeam, or similar brands).
  • Electrical troubleshooting on DC battery systems (12/24/36V) and 120V AC equipment.
  • Retail or customer service experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

  • Pay & Benefits
  • $18–$21 per hour, based on experience — full-time, Monday through Friday.
  • Competitive benefits package including health insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Life Improvement expense reimbursement programs — financial development support, counseling and learning platforms, education and leadership development, fitness and wellness reimbursements, volunteer and family support initiatives, product discounts, and charitable matching (based on eligibility)
  • Ongoing professional development and training
