The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a One-To-One Aide to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.


 For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds. 


  Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title: One-To-One Aide

New York, NY • Therapeutic Preschool


Description

· Assists teacher and reinforces the instruction taught in the classroom to one or two specific students with behavioral and/or emotional issues. 

· Sits with the child during all phases of classroom activity, assisting with academics and applying behavioral management techniques to help the child in adapting to the classroom routine.

· May be called upon to physically remove a child who needs a reduction in stimulation from a full and noisy classroom. 

· Manages and encourages positive social behaviors between his/her child and the child’s classmates.

· Responsible for weekly notes on her/his student and for input during team meetings about that child.

REPORTS TO:          Education Director,  Assistant Program Director, and Classroom Teacher


Requirements

 

Requirements

· High School Diploma or equivalency.

· Experience with very young special needs children is a plus.

· Experience with children with autism is a plus.

· Ability to tolerate noise and children who have impulse issues.

· Knowledge of computer and Zoom program.
