Summer Camp - Lead Counselor
POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the mission of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Lead Counselor provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp while ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging camp experience. This position fosters positive relationships with children, parents, and staff while supporting the potential of all youth in the program.
This is a part-time seasonal position with the following shifts available:
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Monday-Friday (mandatory lunch)
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday-Friday (mandatory lunch)
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday-Friday (mandatory lunch)
PAY RATE
$13 - $16 per hour (Based on experience and credentials)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Actively engages with children throughout the day and demonstrates a passion for youth development.
· Plans and implements daily activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with camp values.
· Ensures adherence to safety and cleanliness standards at all times.
· Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.
· Follows all camp policies and procedures, including those related to safety, medical incidents, child abuse prevention, and emergency protocols.
· Cultivates positive relationships with parents, children, and fellow staff members, fostering a cohesive and supportive team environment.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college coursework preferred.
· Experience working with children in a camp, classroom, or recreational setting preferred.
· Skills and experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: leadership, youth programming, sports, outdoor activities, music, arts, or STEM education.
· Must be 18 years or older.
· CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within 30 days of hire.
