Melt Shop Maintenance Manager

Description

This position has total maintenance responsibility for all melting and casting equipment and related systems (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic) and material handling equipment.  The incumbent reports to the Melt Shop Superintendent along with the General Supervisor Melt Shop, General Supervisor Caster, General Raw Materials Supervisor, and one melt shop clerk.  Reporting directly to the incumbent are 3 exempt Maintenance Supervisor and 29 skilled hourly maintenance employees responsible for all Melt Shop electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic maintenance including assigning preventive maintenance projects to maintenance personnel on other shifts. 


The incumbent establishes work methods and procedures for breakdown and preventive maintenance programs, coordinates with production personnel in order to minimize downtime.  In conjunction with Melt Shop Superintendent establishes maintenance inventory of replacement parts and equipment through requisitions to the Office Manager.  Insuring security of the inventory as well as the adequacy of supply. 

 

The General Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for subordinate selection, training, evaluation, discipline, motivation and safety.  Accountable for employee compliance with established safety procedures. 

 

Incumbent checks work in progress to insure proper maintenance is being performed, anticipates problems, investigates inadequate equipment performance and takes corrective action. 

 

The incumbent is also responsible for general maintenance activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance related to the baghouse area and the electrical substation. 

 


Requirements

Qualifications for this position include possessing a working knowledge of steel industry maintenance, a four-year from an accredited institution in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering combined with 8 to 10 years of experience of in heavy electrical and mechanical maintenance related to electric furnace melting and continuous casting operations.
