The BAS Summer Day Camp Program Specialist will increase their experience and expertise in partner teaching, teamwork and building flexible schedules. This position will support growth and training in areas of youth development and culturally-responsive programming, including best practices in racial equity, social justice, mentoring, academic enrichment, behavior management, youth adult partnerships, life-skills, and leadership development.
The BAS Summer Day Camp Program Specialist is responsible for implementing pre-designed summer enrichment offerings adapting to weekly themes in a responsive program setting for up to 15 youth, while helping manage day-to-day directives that support the overall health of the program while following Office of Child Care (OCC) health and safety licensing guidelines. The BAS Summer Day Camp Program Specialist will lead, and if needed, modify pre-designed activities and curriculum with campers that will strive to achieve youth development outcomes by engaging program participants in activities that address summer learning loss, encourage active recreation, teach community building skills through staff- and camper-led programming, community-based learning, social-emotional growth, and leadership activities through a trauma-informed lens while partnering with district representatives in an ever-changing direct service climate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
This position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities. Site staff members will work together as a team under the leadership of their Site Supervisor, cluster Multi-site Coordinator, and/or Department Director.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in the field;
Or, one-year related experience and/or training in school-age youth development programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Has basic computer job skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter database information, create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data. Understands that becoming comfortable working with Zoom, Google Meets, other platforms that will be important when supporting students with their distance learning assignments.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
A valid, insurable Driver’s License is desired. This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card, Adult and Child First Aid & CPR certification and OCC Basic Safety Set Trainings, plus >15 hours of approved professional development trainings per license year. Current enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry. Submission of Oregon STEP registry application is preferred and required upon hire.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required detect/handle objects; detect sound and communicate with others. The employee is frequently required to be stationary and get low to the ground. The employee is occasionally required to ascend or balance and detect flavors or scents. The employee will supervise K-5th grade children and will be required to interact through frequent traversing and stationary at small desks, traversing quickly in a field or inside a gym, and navigating a playground, while observing multiple program participants.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud depending on the activity/day.
The employee will be required to wear a mask when working as a Program Specialist in a district building and follow any changing health and safety guidelines including, but not limited to, self-report health checks, hand washing, and potential health exclusions when/if exposed to a positive or presumptive case of COVID-19.
