SUMMARY

A Christian Camping Intern will be placed in roles that are up front with guests as well as working behind the scenes. They will be the face, hands, and feet of Black Diamond Camp and God’s purpose here. This unique position will allow Interns to work together as a team and with the other Black Diamond Staff to fill a vital role at Black Diamond by serving groups to fulfill Black Diamonds mission. When not working with guest groups each Intern will get an opportunity to shadow all areas of our camp ministry as well as participate in classes and experiences led by our full-time staff. The internship program at Black Diamond Camps gives you an opportunity to see every side of camping ministry. Through the program, each intern has the opportunity to be mentored by full-time staff as well. The person in this position shall, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior towards colleagues, guests and supervisors. Regular attendance is essential for this position. Adherence to a published schedule is expected and required.


1st Term:

The first term will be learning what it looks like to work behind the scenes in each different department.

Each month each intern will have an opportunity to shadow one of the full-time staff members, in order to learn and experience what it takes to make camp happen. The interns will have an opportunity to shadow hospitality, guest services, operations, administration as well as our summer programs. During the holidays in November and December, the interns will partner with Warm Beach Camp and play a vital role in serving guests on-site during the Lights of Christmas.

2nd Term:

The second term will allow interns to take their skills that they have learned and apply them by working alongside designated program directors, hosting retreat groups during meals, as well as take part in leadership roles within the intern program.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Building relationships with and getting to know our guests, leading group development, running adventure activities, leading outdoor education sessions, prepping for new groups, running retail, cooking, and cleaning camp after groups.


Other responsibilities may include:

Linen upkeep, special projects installation and removal, challenge course upkeep, event planning, trail maintenance, and other jobs based on interns set of skills or passions.

Other duties of ALL Black Diamond Staff:

Black Diamond operates year- round. We have guests on the premises almost every day of the year. Serving guests is our number one priority, and therefore ALL staff must participate in guest service in some capacity. Tasks may include, cooking, cleaning, facilitating group activities, running retail locations, general maintenance of the camp property, and work projects as needed. There are often groups here on weekends, and all staff members will be required to work certain weekends as needed.

Work Context: This job will be performed primarily on location at Black Diamond Camp at the main campus in Auburn and at the Rainier location. Will have opportunities to work off-site at Warm Beach Camp as well.

Travel: Working offsite will happen infrequently during marketing or training trips. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The ability to walk for long distances across varying terrain is required as well.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Duties will include indoor and outdoor activities in varying seasons and weather conditions.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain Food Handler's Permit


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a sincere love for the Lord and be committed to the Lordship of Christ in every area of their life. Must have a burden and a love for young people, and a desire to see them totally committed to the Lordship of Jesus. Must be willing to support the philosophy and goals of WBCM through attitude, speech and action.


CROSS TRAINING

This employee will be available to be cross-training into other areas of the ministry as needs arise.

$16.28/hr
