BUILDING ATTENDANT
Description

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Building Attendant is responsible for supervising the use of Highlands Recreation District facilities during rentals and group activities.  

Essential Functions

  • Assist instructors and individuals who are using District facilities
  • Supervise group activities to maintain order and safety at all times, both inside the building and outside in surrounding grounds
  • Enforce timely beginning and ending of activities and/or rentals
  • Handle basic first aid/medical problems & routine facility problems such as bathroom clogs/overflows and beverage spills in the kitchen or activity rooms
  • Ensure renter receives supplies needed to clean the facility after use and renter returns tables and chairs to proper location
  • Maintain a cheerful, helpful, positive attitude when helping the public
  • Deal with conflicts or complaints in a positive, non-threatening way
  • Open and lock up buildings and ensuring cleanliness of facilities
  • Ensure lights and heat are off, and doors/windows, outdoor bathrooms are locked when leaving
  • Responsible for being knowledgeable in answering any questions regarding Recreation Center classes, programs, and operations
  • Removal of locked bollards in the parking lot, ensuring that any pathway cars drive slow and safe
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Visual and auditory ability to observe and respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation. Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills and the ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, knell or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull and lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.

Requirements

Essential Knowledge & Abilities

  • Flexible and able to take on added responsibilities
  • Able to attend District trainings and meetings
  • Respond to facility emergencies
  • Perform assigned duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Two or more years of High School are needed
  • Sufficient education and experience to satisfactorily perform the duties of this classification

Additional Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid CA Driver’s license
  • Receive Department of Justice fingerprint clearance
  • Possession of certification in CPR and First Aid preferred
