To assist consumers with finding housing that is respectful of their choices and meets the obligations of their respective funding source. The Housing Specialist must network with advocates and housing providers to increase housing options for people with disabilities that is in the least restrictive environment. They must possess professionalism when speaking to consumers, MFP case managers/ nursing facility social workers, and various community partners such as local housing providers and Housing Authorities. The Housing Specialist is responsible for entering data, consumer notes, and maintaining updated consumer profile information within the WILD database in an accurate and timely manner for each consumer as outlined by contractual obligations. Frequently review housing progress with consumers. Assist with other duties as determined by supervisor.

Respond in a timely and professional manner to MFP (Moving Forward Plan) case managers’ requests for housing referrals and case updates.
Execute complete and time-sensitive housing search by:
o Helping to identify appropriate housing opportunities that meet or can be reasonably modified to meet their individualized . needs and preferences
Assist consumers with understanding their rights under Federal Fair Housing Laws and State Fair Housing Laws including, but not limited to, discrimination and reasonable accommodations.
Housing Specialist must be knowledgeable about resources that will assist housing providers to understand community support services that will enable persons with disabilities to live independently within their community of choice. Individual must also provide technical assistance to housing providers and consumers seeking information regarding accessibility and housing rights laws. Attend statewide housing/advocacy meetings as necessary
The Housing Specialist must possess or develop an understanding of State and Federal Housing Laws protecting the rights of people with disabilities. They should possess good written and verbal communication skills; easily establish rapport with other people; and have or develop an understanding of how local agencies, housing providers, and State and Federal systems affect the availability of accessible affordable housing. Must learn to fully grasp and embody the philosophy of the independent living movement and promote equal rights for all people with disabilities.
