The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Special Education Teacher (Master's Level) to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.

For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year old.

                                                                                                        JOB DESCRIPTION


JOB TITLE:     SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER (Master’s Level)


PROGRAM:   Therapeutic Preschool   


HOURS:         35 per week, Monday – Friday


UNION STATUS: Union Position


QUALIFICATIONS: 


Are you a self starter, compassionate , have the ability to evolve immediately?

Has passed the Teacher Certification Exams: LAST, ATS and Students With Disabilities

Master Degree. Have familiarity with  IEP’s in order to ensure that the goals are met through daily instruction. Have knowledge and understanding of behavioral interventions in the classroom for children with behavioral problems. An understanding and knowledge of the various disabilities that will be encountered in the classroom.

 

DUTIES: - Provide for the educational and cognitive needs of children, through curriculum planning, direct instruction,   classroom management, and leading the classroom 

- Supervise assistant teachers in their work with program   students in the classroom.

- Participate in case conferences and in-service staff training   sessions.

- Meet with parents to discuss their child’s cognitive growth   and development within the classroom.

- Maintain record of child’s educational progress.

 - Daily duties not limited to diaper changing, and assisting with feeding as needed

- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of   Children’s Services and /or designee.


REPORTS TO:  Program Director & Educational Director
