About the Role

The BAS Program Aide will increase their experience and expertise providing programming support to Program Specialists and Site Supervisors. This position will support growth and training in areas of youth development and culturally-responsive programming, including best practices in racial equity, social justice, mentoring, academic enrichment, behavior management, youth adult partnerships, life-skills, and leadership development.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. This role will come in contact with students, campers, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. This includes race, gender, age, sexuality, ability, religion, national origin, gender identity, and other identities. This role requires sustaining an inclusive and equitable learning and working environments by having respectful and considerate behavior, thoughtful and constructive speech to all.
  2. Supports activities of participants in before and after school setting while following program expectations modeled by Program Specialists and Site Supervisors.
  3. Helps set-up, support and clean-up project-based learning activities that flexibly follow pre-designed lesson plans and student-led play.
  4. Engages with kids during club activities, free choice, academic time, snack, large motor games/recess, and special activities.
  5. With guidance from site leadership, follow state of Oregon, Office of Child Care health and safety guidelines and learn about Camp Fire best practice around health and safety during all program activities including, but not limited to, health screens, sanitation, daily schedule, allergies, medications, and associated forms.


Job Duties

  • Assists in working with students as part of a team.
  • Provides important assistance around project set-up, clean-up and motor skill development.
  • Organizes program supplies and materials as needed.
  • Helps gather supplies for lessons, activity stations, outdoor activities, and special projects. Helps clean up and organize supplies afterwards.
  • Participates in games and other recreational activities to promote mental, physical and social development and well-being.
  • Works within school policies, confidentiality requirements and understand behavioral management systems.
  • Is a role model for positive youth development practices, youth-adult partnerships and mentoring.
  • Attends Camp Fire meetings and events either in person or remotely as required.
  • Assists Site Supervisor and program leadership with programming functions.
  • Learns policies and practices that lead to safe and successful program experiences for all participants and staff.
  • Learns about current and changing OCC licensing rule changes and safety guidelines.
  • Is a role model for enjoyment, integrity and dedication in the work of Camp Fire.
  • Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
  • Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance for all scheduled shifts.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Displays the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
  • Respectfully takes direction from site supervisor and program leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any staff supervisory responsibilities. Site staff members will work together as a team under the leadership of their Site Supervisor, cluster Multi-site Coordinator, and/or Department Director.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

This position will offer paid trainings to receive a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card, First Aid & CPR certification and OCC Basic Safety Set Trainings.

The employee is frequently required to be stationary, traverse, get low to the ground. The employee is occasionally required to ascend or balance. The employee will supervise K-5th grade children and will be required to interact through frequent traverse, be stationary at small desks, traverse quickly in a field or inside a gym, and navigating a playground, while observing multiple program participants.
