POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Affiliate Teaching Faculty for the online Counseling Program will teach course sections
each quarter commensurate with the need of the program and ability of the instructor.
Affiliate faculty will likely teach one or more sections, but there are no guarantees for
appointment from one quarter to the next.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare accordingly to provide Masters-level instruction for Clinical
Mental Health Counseling courses
View all course material in online asynchronous platform (about 90
minutes of material), and facilitate synchronous discussion with 12 or
fewer students each week for 90 minutes.
Meet occasionally with the faculty course lead to discuss course
procedures, program updates, curriculum development, and issues
specific to students in your course section.
Grade and return all papers within two weeks or earlier.
Respond to all correspondence within 48 hours.
Provide additional assistance and guidance to students as needed.
Submit grades to faculty course leads in a timely fashion each quarter.
Abide by Counseling@Northwestern policy and procedure.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in remediation/retention efforts as needed
2. Maintain ongoing professional activity (research, scholarship, leadership,
teaching, counseling, etc.)

Summary of Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Counselor Education and Supervision identity as evidenced by professional
affiliations, publications, and licensure; or related field of mental health services
2. Evidence of ability to teach within the discipline of Counseling
3. Excellent organization skills
4. Creativity, innovation, and ability to work independently and within a team
5. Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
6. Strong time management and problem-solving skills
7. Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
8. Effectively work with multiple databases and student platforms
9. Skilled at connecting and building rapport with students and faculty
10. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
11. Excellent oral and written communication skills
12. Cultural competence and strong interest in diversity
Minimum Hiring Specifications:
1. Earned CACREP-accredited Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or
related mental health services field
2. Two or more years of experience teaching graduate-level courses
3. Experience with clinical practice in the area of expertise that is being taught
4. Active clinical licensure in home state, or the ability to gain such
