Description
Work in partnership with parents, students, MSCS teachers, and partner schools' general education teachers in accordance with the school’s mission and vision in order to promote student achievement. The following responsibilities and duties are the means to achieve that end, while maintaining compliance with Federal and State Regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Participate in the creation of a Christian atmosphere in school, particularly by beginning each class period with an appropriate prayer.
- Report to school by 7:30 A.M. and to stay on campus until all students in their care have been dismissed.
- Provide classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
- Create a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment.
- Maintain established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect all students.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Handle normal discipline in the classroom which involves the development and maintenance of an orderly and productive classroom environment wherein the substitute teacher is able to instruct, and the students are able to learn to the best of their ability. Classroom rules and procedures should emphasize respect for school, the teacher, fellow students, all staff, and self.
- Communicate effectively with parents when needed.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Substitutes may be required to substitute for multiple teachers/classrooms during the school day or they may be assigned to one teacher’s classroom.
- Employee will be given the room key, a Chromebook or laptop, and a Substitute Binder to review with the administrator.
- Employee is never to leave the class unattended. Should you need assistance you may reach the Front Office by phone or emailing administration (details provided upon hiring)
- Employee is to take attendance and enter it into the computer.
- Cell phones are not permitted during your work hours.
- Employee will have their lunch time during the free period in the teachers’ schedule.
- Employee is expected to dress conservatively and professionally.
- Substitutes must wear their identification badges at all times when working on campus. If a substitute teacher is not needed, employee may be required to assist in the front office with general responsibilities: filing, folding uniforms, or answering the phone.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training requirements.
- High School diploma or higher. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Recommended that the substitute teacher have teaching experience.
