POSITION SUMMARY:
In collaboration with and under the leadership of our Director of Interpreting Services, the Staff Interpreter is responsible for providing ASL interpreting services for individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, ensuring adherence to the Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
The Staff Interpreter must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and have the proven ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Strong interpersonal and outstanding customer service skills are required. Communication effectively and working collaboratively with team members, external customers, and leadership is also required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide interpreting services using American Sign Language to individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Interpreting assignments may include in-person services for appointments, meetings, education, or events in various settings, including VRI.
- Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Professional Code of Conduct.
- Provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it pertains to the Deaf community.
- Review and research professional literature, journals, etc. and attend conferences, and workshops to stay current on best practices.
- Ability to collaborate professionally with the team.
- Work successfully and be able to problem-solve with minimal support/supervision.
- Seek manager support for difficult interpreting situations.
- Contribute to a supportive work environment with positive and creative participation.
- Maintain accurate documentation to ensure timely renewal(s) of all required interpreting credentials.
- Comply with policies and procedures as outlined by Interpretek.
- This position has access to highly confidential information relating to the customers of Interpretek. The applicant must possess the requisite integrity to maintain the information in the strictest confidence.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SKILLS:
- BEI, or RID Certification preferred.
- At least 1-3 years of recent interpreting work in a variety of settings is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule to support business needs.
- Valid Driver License with reliable transportation and willingness to travel to interpreting assignments throughout a typical workday.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of proficiency in computer and technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite of products, is strongly preferred.
- Access to high-speed internet service provider required.
- Ability to effectively communicate via email, and chat-based business solutions.
