Bishop Moore Catholic is looking for substitute teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. The substitute teacher performs the instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. A person in this position works on an as-needed basis. The substitute teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The substitute teacher cooperates with staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

  • Responds promptly to cell phone, text, or email communications from the Dean of Students regarding their availability for substitute assignments.
  • Reports to the Dean’s office on the day of the assignment no later than 7:20 AM or at the time designated by the Dean. Parks in the faculty parking spot designated by the Dean.
  • Receives schedule, lesson plans, and key(s) for the substitute assignment. Checks out BMCHS laptop as necessary for attendance reporting and reports to the designated classroom.
  • The substitute teacher conducts homeroom activities as necessary including attendance, prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Other duties may include fundraising and record-keeping.
  • Substitute teachers follow the instructions in the lesson plans and collect student assignments as directed. The substitute teacher administers tests and quizzes and maintains classroom order.
  • Substitute teachers adhere to BMCHS Faculty and Student Handbook policies and procedures.
  • Substitute teachers assist in the Dean’s office during planning periods or free periods.
  • Substitute teachers perform campus duties that are assigned to the teacher they are replacing.
  • Substitute teachers monitor student behavior and appearance and write any Uniform Violation Notices or Referrals as necessary.
  • Substitute teachers attend Liturgies or Campus-wide gatherings as directed.
  • Substitute teachers document their activities in a note to the regular teacher at the end of the day.
  • Substitute teachers stay in the designated classroom at the end of the day until all the students have finished at their lockers. They will lock the door and return the key(s) and laptop to the Dean’s office.
  • Employment is contingent on the applicant passing a full background check.
  • Upon employment, the individual will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
Requirements
  • AA degree preferred but not required. 
  • Participate in the creation of a Christian atmosphere in the school, particularly by beginning each class period with an appropriate prayer.
  • Report to school by 7:20 A.M.
  • Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
  • Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned.
  • Dress appropriately and modestly to maintain a professional image.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect all students.
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect and maintain equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
