Description

Reliance Pathology Partners, LLC is looking to hire a full-time Laboratory Assistant for our operations in Tampa, FL. 


General Summary of Duties:

Assists and supports the histology technical staff with daily work assignments. Accurately and expediently sorts, accessions, and processes surgical/cytology specimens and requisitions. Work is performed under the supervision of the technical supervisor and histotechnologist.


Supervision Received:

Reports directly the Laboratory Manager, Medical Director, and Pathologist(s)


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Examples of Duties: (This list may not be all-inclusive)

  1. Opens and sorts all incoming tissue specimens, ensuring the accuracy of container to requisition and enters accurate information into the computer system.
  2. Labels specimens, requisitions, cassettes, and slides with corresponding accession numbers.
  3. Performs cytoprep and staining procedures on cytology specimens according to procedure
  4. Consistently implements appropriate control mechanisms required to assure the quality of laboratory instruments.
  5. Performs daily housekeeping and maintenance of processors and stainers including: changing chemicals in the tissue processors, changing chemicals in the stainers, boxing up specimens for disposal.
  6. Sends out slides and blocks for additional testing or consultation as requested.
  7. Prepares solutions as outlined in the departmental manual.
  8. Maintains appropriate statistical logs and worksheets including temperature logs for laboratory equipment.
  9. Checks daily work for clerical accuracy, reporting errors to the technical supervisor.
  10. Organizes, prints appropriate paperwork, and packages slides for distribution to Pathologists
  11. Answers client phone calls, prepares supplies for clients, and researches client issues
  12. Accurately files and retrieves histology/cytology/slides, blocks, and specimens.
  13. Performs and appropriately documents routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  14. Maintains a clean and professional workplace.
  15. Follows guidelines set up by HIPAA regulations.
  16. Follows safety guidelines as demonstrated in the safety manual.
Requirements

Education, Experience, Special Skills:

High school graduation or equivalent. Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred. Working knowledge of computers is required. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with peers, management, and physician staff as well as dependability, flexibility, and adaptability are required.
