Description
The Pharmacy Technician rotates between the mixing pharmacy and dispensing pharmacy to staff and maintain the function of those respective areas.
Accountabilities – Chemotherapy Pharmacy
- Prepare chemotherapy and other medications
- Manage drug inventory via Lynx Mobile Dispensing System; monitor to reduce overstock; check expiration dates
- Maintain Biohazard Safety Cabinet for daily use and preventive maintenance schedule
- Review daily treatment schedule and assess drug availability
- Maintain QA records of equipment – refrigerator, freezer, eyewash station, etc.
- Restocks supplies required for infusion area
- Order supplies for infusion area; is aware of cost containment and strives for efficiency
- Checks emergency drug box for expiration dates and replacement as needed
Accountabilities – Dispensing Pharmacy
- Determine patient eligibility for benefits using dispensing pharmacy and documents in the patient’s EMR
- Dispense oral or injectable drugs as prescribed and collects co-pay
- Maintain all records in Pharmaserv and maintains hard copies of prescriptions or other records as required
- Print daily reports of pharmacy activity and monitor for profit/loss issues
- Reconcile payment from payors with claims filed and post appropriately
- Complete bank deposit weekly or more often if necessary
- Maintain drug inventory to meet requirements but not overstock
- Monitor patient refills, especially specialty drugs
- Communicate with Patient Advocate regarding patients who may need/qualify for assistance
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate from an accredited pharmacy technician training program
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Pharmacy Technician IV Compounding Experience Required
- Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Mixing preferred
