The YMCA is looking for fun, hard working, individuals looking to make an impact in our community. This position will provide after school care in Portland Public Schools.  There are part time and full time positions available, Monday through Friday, with full time with hours of 6:15-9:00am and 2:00-6:00pm or part time hours of 2:00-6:00pm.

Job Responsibilities:


A Teacher will work in the program supervising aides and volunteers. Responsibilities include assisting the Lead Teacher or Site Director in maintaining a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment, implementing a fun and engaging curriculum, and fostering positive relationships with children, parents, and the school community.   Work is primarily performed at YMCA Before and After School programs in Portland. At times, staff may be asked to travel outside of Portland to fill in at other childcare sites within the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette Association. There may be times when staff are asked to attend company events outside of their regular schedule. Staff will be notified ahead of time if and when this happens.  

Requirements

 Required Qualifications:  

  • Pass a YMCA Background Check
  • At least 240 hours of qualifying experience working with school age children in the past five years, an Associates or higher degree in a related field, or a Step 6 on the Oregon Registry. 
  • Meet all Program Leader standards as dictated by the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care. 
  • Current enrollment in the Oregon State Childcare Registry or ability to enroll prior to employment.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days. 
  • Current Food Handlers certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • At least 18 years of age
