The Laboratory Technician performs repairs and preventive maintenance for laboratory equipment including Pilot, Bench and Micro Reactor systems. The position establishes and maintains a thorough preventative maintenance program for each of the lab systems and calibration program. 

Essential Duties: 

· Operate and maintain all reactor systems and peripheral equipment such as pumps, gas delivery systems, laboratory HVAC, and     miscellaneous electronics and electrical equipment 

· Provide support for controls issues and programming of PLC and HMI systems 

· Accurately and timely troubleshoot and fix lab equipment problems 

· Work and collaborate with plant maintenance and engineering staff 

· Plan and coordinate additional maintenance support from in-plant maintenance or contractors 

· Solve minor problems and issues that arise during operation of the reactor 

· Establish and manage a strong preventative maintenance program for major systems 

· Manage laboratory calibration program, ensuring all calibrations are completed at the required frequency 

· Design and implement new reactor systems

· Manage small capital projects

· Recommend equipment improvements and operating procedures 

· Manage or participate in the execution of capital projects, including feasibility, design, preparation of AR’s, project management and management of contract labor

· Work collaboratively with other development and operating staff on operations, routing checks, problem solving, and improvements 

· Serve as a resource to the plant maintenance staff for non-laboratory issues 

· Follow all safety policies and procedures

· Meet or exceed all critical deadlines

· Assist with the design and implementation of new reactor systems

 Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Associates degree in science or technology
  • 2-4 (5+) years of experience working as a lab technician (Sr.)
  • Mechanical and control systems skills 
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Experience with PLC programming 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to plan and execute work efficiently and perform it accurately
  • Capability to work effectively independently as well as on a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work shift for short periods or occasional weekends

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Sr.)
  • Programming experience with Honeywell UMC800 and HC900 (Sr.)
  • Prior experience repairing laboratory reactors, sample trains, pumps, meters, and electrical problems (Sr.)
  • Knowledge in electronics and electrical repair

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift push, pull, and carry 25 pounds frequently
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry 50 pounds occasionally

  • Walking, stooping, bending, crouching, twisting, climbing, and kneeling
