We are Happy Mushroom, a full-service Virtual Art Studio Department specializing in providing high-end, real-time and In-Engine CG production solutions for the Film, TV, Games, and VFX industries. Some of our highlighted projects include The Mandalorian, Those Who Wish Me Dead, Suicide Squad, and more. 

We are currently looking for a talented, passionate, and driven Engineering Manager with extensive technical expertise, and the ability to be an effective leader and asset to our company.

This is a fully remote opportunity with some travel required. Work from home office set-up is required (equipment provided).

The Engineering Manager will directly oversee the development and management of the Engineering department whilst supporting a team of Engineers. This position is in charge of recruiting, hiring, inspiring and growing an effective department and become an asset to the company as a whole, with constant development of new processes, procedures and troubleshooting practices. The Engineering Manager will work with C-level Executives and other department Managers to ensure our creative production processes have a well-rounded design and determine project development best practices whilst fostering a culture of greatness by mirroring our diverse & inclusive core values. This role will also manage the delivery of projects on-schedule and within budget. Effective time management and excellent communication skills are required! We work hard and play hard!


The Nitty-Gritty! Requirements for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Support a team of Engineers and other Technical team members working collaboratively to effectively deliver projects in a timely manner and within allotted budget
  • Communicate with keen ability to convey intricate systems, schematics and logic to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Build team composition and strategy to constantly deliver measurable results
  • Ability to promote employee engagement and align team toward company goals and vision
  • Proficient in capacity planning and project management, ensuring consistent and predictable deliveries and forecasting future needs depending on newly signed projects
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, inspire and develop new team members
  • Strategize a cohesive training program for new and current team members, ensuring efficacy in procedures in a centralized manner
  • Clearly and effectively communicate expectations and timelines to team of Engineers
  • Efficiently performance manage team whilst building eloquent succession plans to support a positive employee experience and increase employee loyalty and commitment
  • Display hands-on experience with professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development
  • Oversee life cycles, including coding standards, code reviews, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Acts as an advisor to team members to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems
  • Develop and implement internal and external schedules to maintain department efficacy
  • Constantly display familiarity with deployment and implementation of processes and monitoring tools
  • Set measurable objectives for the team whilst creating individual performance plans around established KPI’s and coach team members to achieve and surpass job expectations
  • Communicate with Human Resources and Employee Relations on performance management and succession plan for Engineering team
  • Ensure protocols and processes are built while adhering local and domestic labor compliance guidelines
  • Stay up-to-date with modern practices to improve projecting, forecasting and increasing project profitability
  • Encourage innovation of processes and develop effective development methodologies to keep up with ever-changing Engineering trends
  • Actively lead and participate in resolving key issues that impact the performance of the team
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly fluid environment - You will wear many hats!

(Hello, Is it you we are looking for?) The Perfect Candidate Will Possess:

  • 3+ Years of continuous experience in a similar role managing team of Engineers or Software Architects, preferably in the film, motion picture, entertainment, animation, and/or VFX industries
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine and engine code base. 5+ years of continued experience is highly preferred
  • Strong professional experience working with C# tool development and C++
  • Extensive Visual Studio experience
  • Expertise in Maya, Python, ZBrush and/or Substance
  • Experience in managing a team with efficient succession planning, performance management, coaching and training
  • Prior experience of In-Engine CG production in the Film, TV, Games, and/or VFX industries
  • Solid foundation in animation concepts
  • Experience in 3D Math, 3D Simulation, and Architect processes
  • Knowledge in the latest research and development in animation technology

We would love to hear if you have:

  • 5+ years of continued experience developing quality software
  • Degree in Computer Science or related academic program from an accredited institution
  • Expertise in coding processes, standards, code reviews and operations
  • Passion for thinking outside-the-box and ability to thrive in intense troubleshooting of challenging problems while bringing a team together to strategize solutions
  • Experience in software architecture design
  • A silly joke to share
