Term: August 2019–May 2020

Compensation: Approximately $18,350

Position Description:

The fellow will research 19th- and 20th-century European subjects, assisting with exhibition preparations and acquisition proposals. The fellow will draft gallery label text and compile documentation on works in the Museum’s permanent collection, including provenance. The fellow will curate a small gallery installation of European works on paper. The intern may assist with research and projects on related permanent collection areas as needed. The work week for this position is Monday–Friday.

Personal Statement Cover Letter

A detailed one to two page statement explaining your interest in an art museum career. Include information regarding your personal learning expectations for the internship; any prior museum experience; and any art and art history related experience.

Transcripts

Transcripts of courses from institutions of higher education where a degree has been or is in the process of being awarded are required. Official transcripts are preferred but unofficial transcripts will be accepted as needed.

Three Letters of Recommendation

Three letters of recommendation must be submitted directly by your recommenders. Two of these letters must be from academic references.

Recommenders submit through the McDermott Internship Recommendation Form 

Requirements
  • Completion of a Master's degree in art history or a related field prior to the start of the internship in August 2019
  • Reading proficiency in French or Spanish 
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments
  • Ability to work successfully within deadlines
