FLSA STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (15 – 20 hours/week)

As the nation's first and NYC's largest youth mentoring organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City (BBBS of NYC) connects generations of New Yorkers by matching a caring adult mentor, a Big, with a New York City youth, a Little. Through evidence-based, goal-centered, professional supporting programming, BBBS of NYC provides consistent support and guidance to

matches that result in longer, stronger match relationships that advance the social-emotional development and academic progress of young people across the five boroughs.

BBBS of NYC seeks a part-time College Access Specialist for a special assignment from January 2022 – July 2022. Reporting directly to the Director, College & Career Success, this person will play an essential role in deepening the organization’s college access efforts for our youth. This individual must have availability to work some evenings and weekends and attend weekly meetings with the Director, College & Career Success to advance the department’s strategic priorities and establish a comprehensive college access program.


• Create a college application road map for juniors and seniors.

• Train Program Managers on understanding the college application road map.

• Create a college counseling curriculum for us by future full-time staff.

• Plan and conduct seven workshops on all aspects of the college application process for juniors to be hosted twice a month.

• One-on-one counseling sessions with juniors on getting started with the college application process and seniors on making their final college decision.

• Email communications with students, parents, and mentors.

• Analysis of seniors' financial aid packages.

• Create a plan for college representative visits for future full-time staff and organize them for juniors.

• Plan and conduct workshops for mentors and parents to support their Littles in the college application process.

• Organize and host College Signing Day.

• Assist with hiring and training the full-time college access person.



• Five years in college counseling.

• Experience working with students from all kinds of backgrounds.

• Experience consulting with community-based organizations.

• Experience with giving professional development workshops.

Salary Range: $25 - $35 per hour
