Freeman Boatworks, an industry leader in performance offshore fishing catamarans, is seeking a skilled and motivated Rigging Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for installing wire harnesses, electronics, hardware, firmware, and engines on our world-class vessels. Responsibilities
• Use a variety of air, pneumatic, and electric power tools to assemble customized electrical power and control systems
• Cut, strip, splice, terminate, and assemble wire harnesses
• Install hardware on component boards and interconnect hardware with appropriate harnessing
• Install firmware and configuration files
• Complete test protocols to ensure proper operation and assembly quality
• Set up, adjust, and/or change over equipment using appropriate tools common to the job
• Perform inspections at required intervals and take appropriate action when out-of-tolerance situations occur
• Notify appropriate personnel when additional action is required
• Install engines, missing parts, or order changes on boats as directed
• Troubleshoot and repair issues on boats and perform rework as required
• Actively participate in 5S programming and maintain a clean, safe work area in accordance with SOPs, Work Rules, and Plant Safety Rules
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to define and implement quality requirements
• Cross-train into other functions within the QA/Rigging group
• Support order changes, finish inspection, shrink, seats and motors, test tank operations, and related processes
• Utilize the Engineering Liaison for questions related to design, drawings, or configuration
• Demonstrate flexibility to “move to the work” and assist across departments as production needs require
• Work with the Rigging Lead to ensure quality checks are completed in alignment with standardized work, job instruction (JI), and quality criteria
• Perform additional duties as assigned to achieve business objectives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED
• Mechanical aptitude and proficiency using basic tools
• Successful completion of Mercury online training requirements (or ability to obtain)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and hold peers accountable to standards
• Demonstrated eagerness to learn and willingness to assist others
• Experience in rigging, boat building, or related mechanical fields preferred
• Must be able to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position regularly requires working at heights on platforms, lifting parts and components up to 50 lbs, and frequent climbing, bending, squatting, and overhead work. Employees must be able to navigate stairs and remain on their feet for the majority of a 10-hour shift. The work environment involves exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and odors, and requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including eye protection and closed-toe shoes; hearing protection may be required.
