Mann Cataract Surgery Center in the Museum District is looking for a Charge Nurse to join our team!

The Charge Nurse supervises daily clinical operations of the surgery center and manages the clinical and clerical staff in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation regulations and guidelines, as well as established Mann Cataract Surgery Center policies and procedures in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for overseeing all clinical staff members in the Pre-operative, Intra-operative, Post-Operative, and Procedure/Laser departments.

2. Resource person for all clinical staff members in the Pre-operative, Intra-operative, Post-operative, and Procedure/Laser departments.

3. Has complete knowledge of the Pre-operative, Intra-operative, Post-operative, and Procedure/Laser responsibilities and can function efficiently and independently in any of these nursing roles.

4. Adheres to the job description for Pre-Op Nurse, Circulating Nurse, and Post-Operative Nurse when working in the respective role. See attached Job Descriptions for Pre-Op Nurse, Circulating Nurse, and Post-Operative Nurse.

5. Assists patient to the restroom as needed

6. Assures the physician and/or CRNA evaluates the patient immediately prior to transfer to the operating room

7. Carries out other assignments as delegated

8. Knows the care and safe operation of all equipment such as monitoring devices, surgical diathermy, etc.

9. Is familiar with policies and regulations of the surgery center and specifically those pertaining to pre-op, OR and recovery

10. Is aware of Policy and Procedure in the event of an emergency such as cardiac arrest, power failure, etc.

11. Understands and applies sound scientific and teaching principals

12. Prevents incident or injury to patient and personnel

13. Is skilled in interpersonal relations

14. Keeps work area clean and stocked with supplies

15. Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and practice guidelines

16. Maintain positive working relationship will all staff members

17. Works closely with Director of Nursing and the Administrator as required

18. Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Abilities:

1. Has successfully completed Health Provider BLS and ACLS courses and renews them prior to expiration dates

2. Has capacity for making quick, intelligent decisions, and initiating appropriate actions

3. Is stable, mature, and dependable.

4. Possesses excellent communication skills and presents a friendly, caring manner which puts patients at ease

5. Team player


Education and Experience:

1. Registered nurses approved and employed by the medical staff must have, on file, their license to practice in the state of Texas

2. Maintain re-licensure requirements

3. A minimum of two years of nursing experience preferred, O.R. experience is preferred
