PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: This paraprofessional position serves primarily in assisting patients during the day, evening, and weekend program, especially in areas of admissions, transportation, recreation, facilitation of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and monitoring patient behavior. This individual performs functions that are supervised.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Assists patients with nutritional care as necessary, observes intake, and assists with personal hygiene and grooming functions as necessary.
- Regularly observes patients' daily behavior patterns and physical conditions, intervenes as appropriate, and immediately communicates any indications of patient abuse to program authority.
- Observes patient behavior and reports this information to appropriate staff member(s).
- Supervises patient areas so as to maintain the proper rehabilitative atmosphere in all patient areas.
- Assists, when necessary, in crisis intervention.
- Establishes a working rapport with new patients.
- Documents case notes concerning orientation to the program, weekend notes on each patient, and any extraordinary event during patient stay at the facility.
- Verifies trip information with appropriate personnel.
- Assembles/collects necessary paperwork for trip.
- Completes/documents all pertinent information relative to the trip.
- Completes/documents new patient orientation, including but not limited to, the following: facility tour, luggage search, etc.
- Completes/documents all pertinent information relative to the admission, discharge and/or transfer.
- Adheres to all company policies on transporting patients.
- Collects specimens for patients’ UDS when required.
- Demonstrates safety measures, which prevent employee/resident accidents.
- a. Demonstrates good personal body mechanics.
- b. Maintains neatness, cleanliness, and organization of work environment.
- c. Reports all accidents/incidents and hazardous conditions/equipment, as established by departmental policies.
- d. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency policies and procedures.
- e. Properly conduct fire and disaster drills as outlined in Harbor House policy manual.
- f. Follow established guidelines when using equipment, supplies and chemicals.
16. Perform such duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Positions Qualifications:
- Minimum Education - High School Diploma. No waiver of education shall be granted.
- Minimum Experience - One year of chemical dependency training.
- Minimum Licensure/Certification - CPR Training.
- Preferred Education - Additional studies at the college level.
- Skills: Ability to express information/observations both verbally and written in an accurate, professional manner.
Interpersonal relationship skills. Considerable knowledge and understanding of AA philosophy and 12 Steps.
