This Program Lead is responsible for supporting the Site Supervisor in overseeing and facilitating Camp Fire after-school activities for diverse student populations at K-5 elementary schools during the school year. This position takes a leadership role by supporting site staff in developing engaging curriculum, and in the planning and teaching of sequenced lessons in school settings for up to 15 youth. This position includes assisting the Site Supervisor in program planning and management. The Program Lead will strive to achieve youth development outcomes by engaging program participants in academic enrichment and support creative arts, active recreation, community building, community-based learning, and leadership activities. This position includes regularly maintaining and updating the materials in the program space to create a welcoming and stimulating environment, supporting staff development, systems and resources to achieve program outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- This role will come in contact with students, campers, visitors, vendors and employees. Each of these persons may have visible and invisible qualities that makes that person unique. - Direct instruction of participants in a before and after school program setting while maintaining program expectations and behavior management with small groups of up to 15 youth and large groups up to 90, as a team.
- Supports Site Supervisor in planning academic support time that includes diverse and developmentally appropriate options for all students.
- Maintains regular and reliable on-site attendance for scheduled morning and afternoon shifts while also completing tasks and attending scheduled meetings off site.
- Provides clear and direct feedback to staff on written curriculum and connect staff with existing curriculum and/or resources as needed.
- Plans and implements community-based learning projects each quarter.
- Manages supplies by maintaining current inventory, ensuring games, art supplies, and equipment are in good working repair and that there are developmentally appropriate games and supplies for all ages in program.
- Assists Site Supervisor with program facilitation including group meetings, transitions, PBIS systems and family communication.
- Gives feedback and support to staff and supports their professional development through recommending trainings.
- Supports Supervisor in administrative and logistical duties to include: monthly budget and program tracking, program updates to the Development and Communication department, supply and snack shopping.
- Participates as a Full Day Program Development team member and acts as an on-site, Full Day Program lead.
- Understands and follows Office of Child Care licensing policies and supports Site Supervisor in maintaining site/program to comply with state licensing standards.
- Actively collaborates with the site team and other BAS sites on program planning, communication with families, behavior management, and overall programming to support the success of the program.
- Submits written lesson plans, community-based learning plans and supply needs.
- Works within school policies and confidentiality requirements and understands behavior management systems.
- Develops positive working relationships with participants, families and school staff.
- Acts as a role model for positive youth development practices, youth-adult partnerships and mentoring.
- Participates in recruitment and retention of program participants.
- Participates in outreach to families and coordinates family engagement activities.
- Organizes and attends field trips in Portland and surrounding areas.
- Reliably attends Camp Fire meetings, trainings and events.
- Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire; projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
- Commits to outside planning hours each week.
- Ensures policies and practices are followed that lead to safe and successful program experiences for all participants and staff.
- Acts as a role model for enjoyment, integrity and dedication in the work of Camp Fire.
- Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
- Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required to work with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.

As a support to the Site Supervisor, the Program Lead will be the designated program’s supervisor in the Supervisors absence. The Program Lead is responsible to help give feedback and guide site staff in program delivery. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance in partnership with the Site Supervisor; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree from four-year college or university; Or two years related experience and/or training; Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience instructing in an after-school program environment that involved solo teaching, outcome-based lesson planning and current best practices in youth development, and behavior management for students. Working knowledge of youth development and programming, including best practices in mentoring, academic enrichment, youth-adult partnerships, life skills, and leadership development is strongly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
This job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
A valid insurable Driver’s License is preferred. This position also requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card and First Aid & CPR certification and OCC Basic Safety Set Trainings, plus >15 hours of approved professional development trainings per license year. Oregon Central Background Registry enrollment is required.
