Position Overview:


The Automotive Product Manager is responsible for managing automotive products as assigned by the Chief Product & Marketing Officer. This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, gathering product and customer requirements, defining the product objectives, and working closely with the factories to deliver new products. The Automotive Product Manager also will be working with sales, marketing, and our factories to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Automotive Product Manager must be a subject matter expert on their products including competitors, technical requirements and market activity. This position is not well suited for applicants with a background in software or tech product management.


 Responsibilities:

  • Perform product line research and project management for market demand pricing and the competitive environment
  • Create and present for approval a strategic product plan that includes a strategic assessment, competitive overview, strategic goals, portfolio analysis, and action plans for each product line on an annual basis. 
  • Be an expert with respect to the competition for assigned product lines and the subject matter expert for assigned products
  • Actively develop sales tools and marketing materials to support the product
  • Recommend new product additions to product lines with supporting research
  • Supervise and train Assistant Product Managers assigned to the Product Managers area
  • Train sales and marketing organization on new and existing products
  • Actively communicate with regular reporting the status of projects to all stakeholders; including senior management and cross-functional teams
  • Create special analysis and reports to support new customer proposals
  • Work with the factory to reduce/eliminate product quality issues and identify cost reduction and value improvement opportunities
  • Plan product exhibits and displays and participate in trade show support and representation when needed
  • Initiate the setup of new parts with the Catalog and Data Specialist and Supply Chain Department
  • Responsible for collecting product interchange, drawings, packaging data
  • Coordinate the product launch process; including technical support to marketing for promotional material and packaging requirements
  • Interact with sales force and customers as necessary to accomplish responsibilities
  • Utilize tools such as AllData to research OEM information and data for date range expansion opportunities
  • Analyze product line sales and develop relevant reports and analysis for management on a regular reporting cycle
  • Support marketing with new product and now in stock announcements
  • Develop financial sales and profitability goals for assigned product lines 
  • Recommend pricing for new and existing products based on Company standards
  • Developing and publish accurate and efficient SOPs for areas of responsibility
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customer, suppliers, and industry trade association partners to facilitate the collection and dissemination of high-quality product data and promote assigned product lines
Requirements

  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and education
  • 5+ years experience in an automotive environment managing and launching automotive products
  • High proficiency with office productivity software; particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, and Google tools
  • Mechanical aptitude and a general understanding of automotive parts. Past experience as a technician or parts manager a plus.
