The Medical Assistant (MA) assists in receiving patients, takes vitals, draws blood (phlebotomist), handles lab telephone calls, and more. This role serves as a liaison between the patients, physicians/providers, and other staff members.

*Candidates for this position are required to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.*
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet patients and escort them to the lab area
- Draw blood, check vitals and update patient’s chart in the Electronic Medical Record
- Perform clinical duties, including asepsis and infection control, first aid and CPR
- Perform bleeding times, phlebotomies, urinalysis, make peripheral smears
- Bag blood for outside labs
- Approve lab related charges for billing
- Keep draw station area stocked and clean, order lab supplies
- Perform quality assurance/calibration on CBC machine
- Bring CBC machines up in the AM and down in the PM
Experience and Education
- CMA or Phlebotomy certification required
- 1+ year phlebotomy experience preferred
- Basic computer knowledge
- Medical terminology knowledge
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform venipunctures, phlebotomies and other procedures as indicated
- Ability to comply with OSHA and HIPAA policies
- Ability to effectively multi-task
- Exceptional customer service & patient-interaction skills
