Summary of Position: The VCS High School Principal / Assistant Head of School for Academics and Spiritual Life leads the high school, and also oversees the school’s spiritual and academic program. Through effective leadership / delegation, he or she will partner with an exceptional, fully staffed faculty and administrative team to establish and execute the spiritual and academic vision of VCS.
Responsibilities include overseeing the school’s spiritual and academic program, including chapel / Bible, faculty support / mentorship, professional development, college counseling, and curriculum. The High School Principal / Assistant Head of School for Academics and Spiritual Life is a senior member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Head of School.

Duties & Responsibilities: Spiritual Works with the Head of School to cast vision for student spiritual development centered on the cultivation of a Biblical worldview; develops, implements, and directs long-range planning towards that vision Ensures a Christ-centered spiritual climate in all VCS programs, including chapel, student discipleship, and all other programs Oversees the spiritual program at the high school, which includes, but is not limited to, chapel, retreat,
Bible class, and Biblical integration with instruction
Instruction, Academics, and Curriculum Development Works with the Head of School to cast vision for the academic program; develops, implements, and directs long-range planning towards that vision Plans for and oversees not only the inspiration, but the professional development of all VCS faculty Provides leadership of the school curriculum and classroom instruction which ensures pedagogical alignment and academic excellence Oversees (though often properly delegated) the observation and evaluation of the teaching faculty Serves as the high school’s educational leader, including the teaching faculty, administrative staff, and instructional leadership team at the high school level (including both deans and subject dept. heads)
School Climate Fosters the academic and spiritual growth of the students Though properly delegated to principals / directors, oversees the discipline and correction of student behavior Communicates thoughtfully and effectively for the high school Oversees a robust extracurricular program that supports the development of student leadership
Administrative Oversees all administrative, and many operational, aspects of the high school
- Ensures effective administrative procedures are in place and are executed, including front office communication, record keeping, etc.
Miscellaneous Listens responsively to, and works to resolve (following the Matthew 18 principle), parent concerns that rise above the department principal Supports with student / family retention efforts alongside other administrators Supports, on an as needed basis, with new family interviews Oversees the college counseling staff and process Other duties as required.

Building Coalitions - each VCS leader understands the importance of, and is able to, build coalitions of support that provide them the broadest range of support for the decisions they make13. Strong competency with Microsoft Suite and/or Google’s version of Microsoft Suite
Educational / Background Requirements1. Bachelor’s Degree is a minimum requirement; additional degrees are given favorable consideration2. A minimum of 5 years of instructional leadership experience is desired (more experience is given favorable consideration).3. Demonstrated ability to lead others.
