Description

The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation processes. The incumbent operates Hydrovac and other machines used in construction to excavate, load, dig or break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials. The Hydrovac Operator acts as crew lead, responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner.

Essential Functions

•Responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation projects including utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging
•Operate Hydrovac trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
•Supervise activities of Hydrovac Laborers in order to ensure employee skill development
•Set up and inspect grounding and/or bonding procedures for Hydrovac operation
•Complete all required paperwork properly and within set time lines
•Perform pre and post-trip inspections, as well as routine maintenance

•Knowledge of basic underground utilities
•Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
•Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time

•Supervisory Responsibility

Employee acts as crew lead and will oversee the activities of Hydrovac Laborers

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs. Work is done outside at a job site that may have inclement weather conditions. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles and equipment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to type, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Visual Acuity: must be adequate to perform all required tasks in a safe manner.

This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.

Requirements
  •  Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement
  •  High School Diploma or GED 
  • Must have a clean driving record. 
  • Must pass drug screen and MVR check and background check pursuant to local, state and federal rules.
