Description
As an essential part of Timberline, Ski Patrollers help keep the ski area running safely while providing emergency medical care as a EMT-B for guests of Timberline Lodge. Entry-level position/Ski Patroller Basic and/or Ski Patroller Level 1.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Effectively communicate and participate in Timberline Ski Patrol’s safety policies, emergency procedures and action plans.
- Primary duty to respond to injured guests, monitor and maintain all trails and signage within Timberline permit area.
- Routine trail inspection, hazard evaluation and maintenance of on-hill safety equipment including but not limited to ropes, bamboo, signage and padding.
- Provide professional level emergency medical care in accordance with Timberline Ski Patrol’s medical protocols and within scope of practice of EMT-B.
- Maintain first-aid supply bags and response equipment on-hill.
- Provide transport for guests who meet criteria for medical or additional support.
- Complete incident reports in a thorough, timely and legible manner.
- Assist with educational efforts related to safe skiing and riding.
- Assist with enforcement on company policy and Oregon’s Skier’s Code regarding safety regulations, including taking appropriate disciplinary action.
- Assist with Lift Evacuation procedures as instructed.
- Perform with Self Evacuation procedures as instructed.
- Assist senior Ski Patrollers and Ski Patrol Management when necessary.
- Assist and take direction from Mtn. Operations Manager(MOD), GM Mtn. Operations.
- Effectively communicate with ambulance, life flight, SAR and law enforcement personnel.
- Assist other departments as necessary in order to provide a high quality mountain experience for guests of Timberline Lodge.
- Ensure Ski Patrol facilities are kept clean and well organized.
- Effectively communicate and work alongside Mt. Hood Ski Patrol volunteers.
- Present a professional, quality image at all times.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a current Oregon or National Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certificate.
- Must have current Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certification.
- Must have excellent customer services skills and able to maintain a courteous, professional attitude towards guests and staff at all times. .
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and arrive at work on time as scheduled.
- Must be able to meet approved company driver criteria.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a minimum Type II (Intermediate) skier, able to ski in all adverse weather and hill conditions, including those encountered during avalanche control.
- Must be in good physical condition, able to perform strenuous work outside in all adverse weather conditions.
- Must be flexible and capable of bending, twisting and kneeling.
- Must be able to work in tight space with balance and poise.
- Must be able to work on feet, stand, and walk for the duration of your shift.
- Must be able to work scheduled shifts and additional shifts when needed. Including but not limited to double shifts, night shifts, photoshoots, early set-up and after hours work.
- Must be able to keep up with pace of department/position demands.
- Must be able to work for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to shovel all types of snow in all types of weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 80 lbs. and carry 40 lbs. while skiing.
- Must be able to ascend 1,000 vertical ft. in 1 hr. carrying loaded Ski Patrol pack and skis.
