Weavers Way Co-Op is looking for an energetic, community-oriented and experienced individual to work as a Cleaner in our Chestnut Hill location. This is a part-time position, with an estimated 10-15 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability is required. If you have experience working in a team setting, have a high standard of cleanliness and want to get involved with your community, then we want to hear from you!
Cleaner Responsibilities:
- Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors of various types.
- Dusting ceilings, light fittings, countertops, and shelves.
- Scrubbing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and kitchen fixtures.
- Emptying trash cans.
- Washing and drying windows.
- Liaising with the line manager to ensure that you have sufficient cleaning products at all times.
- Reporting any breakages that occur during the cleaning process.
- Informing the line manager of repairs that need to be done.

JOIN US AS A PRODUCE MANAGER!
We are looking for an experienced, professional, and community-oriented individual to work as a Produce Manager in our upcoming Germantown location. This is a full-time exempt position, working a minimum 40 hours per week. The Produce Manager is responsible for overseeing all of operations of our Produce department. They drive exceptional service through accountability of department staff, as well as driving sales through advantageous merchandising and high in stock levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchasing
- Purchase produce following guidelines of a marketing plan, (e.g., priority for local, organic)
- Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
- Evaluate suppliers and investigate new products
- Evaluate sales turns/inventories and adjust accordingly
- Receive produce deliveries and/or oversee receiving, follow or create receiving procedures
- Review invoices for pricing and discount accuracy; request and track receipt of credits from suppliers
- Ensure accurate, up-to-date PLU's , working with POS, front end
- Create new sales ideas, signage, suggest co-op deals, other specials
Merchandising
- Order produce and maintain inventory control to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and maximize sales and turnover
- Plan attractive produce displays, use endcap fully, create procedures for dept.
- Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, culled several times daily
- Set quality standards for culling; trim, wash, bundle produce as needed
- Manage back stock and storage areas to ensure freshness and proper rotation
- Price produce to achieve margin and sales goals, calculating prices by balancing margin, turnover, and value to shoppers (working with other managers)
- Select items for specials; mark down items as needed to reduce losses
- Assist customers with produce questions and special orders
- Provide product information (including source and use of the product) for customers and staff at the point of sale and/or in The Basket Bulletin or The Shuttle
- Provide clear, attractive, consistent signage in coordination with the Marketing Coordinator
- Ensure proper disposal of past date/poor quality product
- Participate in all inventory counts, and assist with store count
- Visit other stores for price comparisons, product and merchandising ideas; check periodic price surveys of competitors.
Store Safety
- Maintain produce display, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting Health Department standards
- Ensure all work and retail areas meet established safety standards
- Maintain department equipment in working order; correct or report problems to the Repair and Maintenance Coordinator
- Research and recommend equipment repair or replacement
Customer Service
- Treat people fairly, courteously, and with respect so that they are given a reason to return
- Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and nutrition information to customers
- Report customer suggestions, use and promote the use of Snapshots
- Make sure all staff are greeting shoppers
- Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing
Personnel
- Hire qualified applicants, following established policy
- Ensure on-the-job training for department staff
- Develop performance standards and manage department staff accordingly
- Conduct performance evaluations of department staff and participate in evaluations of other staff
- Ensure that all department workers have up-to-date job descriptions and periodic reviews
- Take and document disciplinary action as needed following established policy
- Schedule hours for Produce Department within budget allocation
- Hold Produce Department meetings at least bi-monthly
- Create and maintain a safe working environment for Produce staff in coordination with the Safety Committee
Financial Performance
- Develop and administer a departmental budget with assistance from the store Manager
- Attain sales and margin goals for the department
- Report weekly in store huddle on variations from budget
- Submit performance evaluations on Management Team members
Other Duties
- Attend management or other meetings if scheduled and as directed
- Ensure, in coordination with the Store Manager, that all areas meet lawful standards for food handling safety
- Perform other tasks as assigned

We are looking for an energetic, experienced, and customer service-oriented Bulk Buyer with keen attention to detail for our upcoming Germantown location. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position working an estimated 35-40 hours per week. Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends, is required. The Bulk Buyer is responsible for supporting the Grocery Manager to ensure the successful day-to-day operations of the bulk section by maintaining a current and competitive selection of products, assisting in the development of new processes, and sharing your industry knowledge with staff and customers alike.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Research, purchase, price, display, account for, and otherwise find and sell products in line with our standards and which will achieve sales, margin, and member and shopper satisfaction goals.

Purchasing
- Purchase products, including monitoring standing orders frequently and adjusting them according to customer demand, seasonal needs, and display limitations
- Submit accurate orders correctly and in a timely manner before vendor cutoff time
- Evaluate suppliers, research and source new products
- Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
- Achieve target margin under the guidance of the Produce manager
- Maintain the vendor files and ordering/receiving schedule
- Develop and maintain a product database for use in ordering and pricing
- Coordinate purchasing with the Produce manager
- Process special and pre-orders
- Ensure proper procedures are followed for cleaning, receiving, bagging, pricing, labeling, storage, rotation, and display
- Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable
- Receive departmental deliveries, overlook quality before accepting delivery and ensure that invoice reflects products received
- Sign and date all invoices and file in the bin for accounts payable when completed
- Review invoices for accuracy
- Visit farm markets and other grocers for price comparisons and ideas for displays and products
Merchandising
- Merchandise and market produce goods, including promotions, coordinating discounting within and with other departments, and advertising in the Shuttle
- Provide product information for members and staff
- Plan attractive displays with uniform signage
- Ensure, along with the rest of the produce department staff, that displays are fully stocked and rotated to guarantee freshness
- Ensure that product labels are accurate, complete, current and include a complete ingredient list
- Ensure display areas are maintained and clean, meeting health department standards
- Maintain back stock and supply storage areas for cleanliness and orderliness
- Check equipment to assure safe and proper operation and report maintenance needs
- Maintain a list of supplies needed for produce operation/merchandising and ensure an adequate stock of supplies through communication with the Produce Manager.
Customer Service
- Greet customers in a friendly manner
- Treat customers fairly, consistently, and with respect
- Respond quickly and courteously to all requests and complaints from customers and work to ensure that all customers feel satisfied after any interactions
- Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions; refer unresolved questions to the appropriate colleague
- Be able to discuss membership with prospective members
- Answer phones and make public announcements as needed
- Assist customers with special orders
- Supervise and guide cooperators as needed
Personnel
