Entry-level Civil Engineer

An Entry-Level Civil Engineer's main role is to assist Project Managers with performing engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing structure and facilities. This role requires knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of engineering protecting quality of resources and the environment. SynTerra is seeking a self-motivated, technically minded Civil Engineer who is competent in Civil 3D and CAD and has experience implementing Civil Engineering design packages through Design Development and Construction Drawings. This engineer should have the ability to think independently, manage assignments and assist with the delivery of drawing packages. This engineer will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, where you may be responsible for multiple parallel assignments.

Responsibilities: (The following is a list of responsibilities of this position, but is not intended to cover all duties that this position may be required to perform from time to time.)

  • Provide technical support to Project Managers regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs. 
  • Assist in design activities including stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, roadway drainage, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, utility coordination, site design and environmental permitting.
  • Assist with the development of preliminary to final design calculations and drawings.
  • Review field information and perform field inspections of existing stormwater facilities.
  • Perform technical writing for design reports and permitting applications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and a variety of Civil Engineering design software applications.
  • Participate in marketing efforts for civil engineering services.
  • Prepare, review, and update civil investigation and recommendation reports.
  • Provide technical-level support for civil engineering projects and determination of regulatory applications.
  • Interpret annotations, design plans, historical references, interviews, on-site investigations, and site plans in developing the appropriate document submission to satisfy client’s needs.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
  • Provide accurate, detailed and high-quality products.
  • Comply with all current policies and procedures of SynTerra.
  • Comply with all Health and Safety training in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Full-Time employees: Available to work 40 hours per week, plus additional hours as needed to meet project deadlines. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Business Unit Leader or his/her designee.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. 
  • Two (2) years of experience is preferred in professional or educational/research setting. 
  • Software proficiency (including but not limited to): Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, Civil 3D Design, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (EIT certification)
  • 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER trained a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for all levels of technical understanding.
  • Excellent math skills required.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • The Entry-Level Civil Engineer must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail. 
  • The Entry-Level Civil Engineer’s work environment involves work in both indoor and outdoor settings in environments ranging from climate controlled office space to areas where dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions may be present.
  • May sit or stand for several hours at a time and climb inclines (terrains, ladders, etc.). 
  • The Entry-Level Civil Engineer must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel throughout client service area is required as needed.
