Position Summary:
The Facilities Division of OVG360 has an exciting opening for an Assistant Director of Operations on the campus of Arizona State University for the new 5,000 seat multi-purpose arena and community ice rink. The new arena is scheduled to open in fall 2022 and will be home to ASU Sun Devil Men’s Ice Hockey, ASU Wrestling and Women’s Gymnastics programs, an NHL franchise, as well as variety of events, including concerts, family shows, comedy and other live events. The new community ice rink will serve as a public venue to the community and will host hockey and skating programming, youth competitions, educational opportunities and more.
The position reports directly to the Executive Director of Operations. The Assistant Director of Operations provides direct supervision to full time, part time, and sub-contractor specifically in the areas of housekeeping and operations, overseeing changeovers and post event cleanings of the facility. The Community Iceplex will be a point of focus for this position. This individual will interact with guests at times and requires the ability to communicate and engage with the public with a focus on delivering a world class guest experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Executive Director of Operations in the overall daily operation and maintenance of the facility.
- Lead all facility set-ups and changeovers, including scheduling/managing/directing in-house staff and sub-contractors.
- Lead all staff as Manager on Duty for Arena or Iceplex at times, as assigned.
- Oversee operational needs in Iceplex as needed or as assigned.
- Assist ice programming, scheduling, and community relations for the facility as needed.
- Assist, and lead if necessary, the Housekeeping Department, including scheduling, managing, directing local and sub-contractor. Maintaining overall facility and grounds cleanliness.
- Works directly with facility operations/engineering/ice technician to ensure proper maintenance and repair of the rink, and ice plant.
- Work in conjunction with Executive Director of Operations to install, maintain, and remove of NHL quality ice surfaces and equipment.
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plans for the facility; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures
- Create schedule for Operations staff and Housekeeping Staff
- Represent Operations Department in absence of Executive Director of Operations
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate Operations Managers/Supervisors, Housekeeping Managers/Supervisors and full and part time staff
- Provide and/or coordinate department staff training
- Work with Managers/Supervisors and other department employees to correct deficiencies; implement timely disciplinary and exiting procedures with staff (including sub contractor workers)
- Assume management responsibility for all operational services involved in all arena events
- Ensure staff is working safely, efficiently and are aware of proper safety guidelines
- Responsible for execution of and compliance with Contracts
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for facility operations
- Participate in the development and administration of the Operations Department budget; forecast additional needs for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
- Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies
- Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
- Maintain a customer first mentality
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Minimum of five (5) years of Operations/Housekeeping experience in a sports and entertainment facility. Experience in a sports complex and/or facility preferred,
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in facility operations and events.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
- Experience with youth sports and community ice rinks a plus.
- Understanding of event and on-ice programming.
- Must be a self-starter, proactive, flexible, and deadline-focused
- Forklift certified or ability to be certified
- Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Knowledge of Ice operations / refrigeration
- Knowledge of Fire Alarm / Fire Protection systems
- Knowledge of Burglar / Hold up Alarm systems
Nonessential Job Functions:
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid CPR certificate.
Skills
- Proficient knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software
- Operate standard office equipment including printer, copier, computer and fax machine.
- Written/Oral communications - ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect
Working Conditions:
- Minimal Travel (<10% of work time) may be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
- Frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
