We are seeking a System Engineer with the following skills in the Washington DC area. The position requires a candidate to have an active Top Secret Security Clearance.
This position is for an experienced System Engineer to support the FBI’s computer systems being used for the delivery of training content and training related services. This position involves working in support of the Training Division to deliver training content and training related services to FBI personnel. The System Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation and expansion of the agencies training related computer systems. They participate in planning, design, implementation, deployment, documenting and testing of these systems. Based on analysis, make recommendations and provide advice on system improvements, automation, and risk management. They interface with technical stake holders to ensure they have a clear understanding of computer system requirements. They also develop system documentation in support of current and future systems.
- Serve as the System Engineer for Training Division’s Learning Systems Unit (LSU)
- Transfer of system engineering knowledge to System Administrators
- Supports a systematic engineering approach to the design, architecture, requirements elicitation, development, operation and use of cloud technologies and platforms for mission solutions
- Identify technical requirements - make suggestions regarding technical requirements and best practices
- Architect, configure, and support physical/cloud server environments
- Regularly evaluates existing cloud infrastructure to identify risks or opportunities for improvement
- Design and implement system security and data assurance in collaboration with the ISSO
- Collaborate with developers and system administrators to ensure system requirements are met
- Configure and install computer systems
- Writes system documentation to include: flowcharts, system diagrams and other documentation
- In coordination w/the course developers and program manager, develops systems courseware design documentation
- Validate systems meet organizational requirements
- Development of PowerShell scripts to automate system support tasks
- Improve and expand their knowledge and skill set regarding current industry trends
- Proactively contributes to the quality of the product by seeking and proposing new or alternative approaches to address the organizations training delivery challenges
- Design, configure, and maintain physical/virtual network systems
- Maintains day-to-day health of LSU’s Azure cloud infrastructure (monitoring productivity, security and optimization)
- Support the Splunk application to include install and set up of the application and forwarders, writing SPL queries, setting up alerts and managing daily ingest to not exceed license threshold
- Other duties as consistent with this role
- 5+ years demonstrated experience as a System Engineer
- Experience with either Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, Amazon Web Services or another cloud service provider
- Experience with Architecting, planning, and implementing cloud infrastructure solutions that balance simplicity, standards, scalability, extensibility, supportability, and integrity
- Experience with designing, securing and supporting mission-critical, high –availability architectures
- Expert knowledge to install and manage OS, administer users accounts, security, configuration, patch management, updates and configure network connectivity
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016 and/or 2019
- Expert knowledge of PowerShell scripting
- Comprehensive understanding of configuration and initialization files, error logging, event viewer as they pertain to software applications and must be able to gather, organize, analyze and/or potentially resolve software issues
- Able to configure network connections; gather, organize, analyze and troubleshoot network issues; employ support tools to trace network connectivity issues, diagnose problems and escalate as needed
- Expert capabilities in triaging and remediating system problems and issues
- Extensive network skills and experience including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS,WINS, Workgroups Domains, Active Directory, Group Policy, and the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of firewall, switches and routers
- Strong experience w/system security including the management of Certificates, NTFS, and Share level permissions
- Excellent oral/written/interpersonal communication skills - able to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms
- Proficient in system analysis and troubleshooting to analyze, isolate, and document problems/issues, identify risks, and develop options/solutions
- Ability to define project goals and work independently to complete projects while adhering to a schedule
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills
