About the Role:

As a Senior Proposal Writer, you’ll work closely with the Proposal Manager, technical subject matter experts, content contributors, teammates, and business development leaders. You will participate in every stage of the proposal development lifecycle (PDLC) from solicitation analysis and planning, through content development, review and editing, to final production. You’ll work closely with contributors, especially technical solution teams, to ensure all contributed content is well-written, meets standards, and, most importantly, clearly demonstrates how the proposed solution meets the client’s needs.  Experience in the software or product development world will help you to hit the ground running, as well as identify areas within the technical solution that may seem confusing to evaluators or require additional detail. When you lead a proposal effort, you’ll be responsible for the overall quality of the finished proposal. In between proposals, you’ll work with the Proposal Manager to ensure content assets are created or updated, maintaining a high-quality, robust library. This position will be remote-eligible with a work schedule compatible with the Eastern Time Zone. 

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without a current or future need for visa sponsorship
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Proposal Writer
  • Six months’ proposal writing experience in a technical environment with exposure to the product/software development lifecycle
  • Advanced knowledge of the PDLC, with the ability to adapt to KL&A’s processes and tools
  • Experience performing competitive intelligence research and/or collaborating with subject matter experts to understand and synthesize concepts in order to create new content 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word on a Windows-based PC, particularly with advanced features such as styles and cross-referencing
  • Experience working with other Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Must be capable of reviewing and organizing a large volume of information in a logical hierarchy to ascertain proposal structure and requirements
  • Must have excellent writing skills, including the ability to write persuasive and narrative content that is concise, yet thorough
  • Must be able to follow style guidelines, such as voice, tense, capitalization conventions, and formatting/layout conventions
  • Must be able to think strategically and work collaboratively with the proposal team to cultivate win themes and value propositions and apply them throughout proposal content
  • Experience effectively conveying information to audiences of all skill levels 
  • Must be able to proofread and edit contributed content
  • Must be able to champion practices that uphold quality standards and contribute to continuous process improvement throughout the PDLC
  • Must be self-motivated with a desire and drive to continuously learn and grow as a professional and as an individual
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) with the ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders

Bonus Skills & Experience:

  • The ability to think conceptually about software solutions and to apply said concepts into meaningful proposal content
  • Familiarity with the US State and Federal Government procurement process
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience working with Atlassian Jira
  • Experience creating flow diagrams or org charts
  • Experience working with Google products, such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
  • Previous software or process documentation experience
  • Experience with proposal management software
  • Some experience with graphics software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop
  • APMP Certification

Work Environment

Since the COVID-19 pandemic forced most of us to work remotely, KL&A has embraced the new flexible scheduling that was one of the microscopic lights at the end of the isolated tunnel. As a result, we are conducting all interviews virtually (get your Zoom background ready.)
