General Statement of Duties: Reports to the QAPI/Education Manager. Supports educational programs for internal staff/ external partners as directed and in collaboration with the Leadership Team and Information Services Team.
1. Perform ongoing assessment, development and presentation of Coastal Hospice orientation in collaboration with hospice management team, which requires;
a. Skilled in reflective listening
b. Coordinates schedule and presenters
c. Maintains an objective based curriculum based on Coastal Hospice mission, vision, values, and current goals
d. Conducts Netsmart clinical documentation orientation and follow-up in collaboration with Clinical Documentation Specialist to ensure best practice standards and regulatory requirements are met
e. Develops and provides orientation and ongoing staff training of information technology and standard office equipment
f. Conducts ongoing evaluation of success of orientation program and other educational offerings
2. Plans and develops ongoing education programs/offerings under direction of QAPI/Education Manager and in collaboration with Team Leaders and clinical staff.
a. Conducts annual education needs assessment for internal and external customers
b. Collaborates in development of annual education calendar including live in-services, teleconferences, and annual skills lab for nurses and aides with QAPI/Education Manager.
c. Coordinates education programs with internal presenters, external speakers and Director of Clinical Services.
d. Presents education to internal staff, contracted Nursing Facilities and community
e. Accommodates needs by presenting in alternate locations, dates, and times to include joint visits with staff members
f. Utilizes dynamic, inclusive and interactive presentation style
g. Attends ongoing professional development sessions to remain current on education techniques and clinical evidence based practice techniques
3. Coordinates learning experiences of professional students with the faculty/staff of local universities
4. Maintains staff education records in collaboration with QAPI/Education Manager and Human Resources Director including the use of Relias Learning System
5. Performs chart audits as requested
6. Develops and maintains positive relationships with referring agencies/organizations
7. Assists marketing/PR departments with speaking engagements, health fairs and vendor fairs as appropriate
8. Participates in organizational and state level committees to ensure regulatory and best practice standards are met
a. Leads quarterly Education Sub-Committee meetings
b. Reviews and revise Policy and Procedures in collaboration with the Education Sub-Committee
c. Participates in state level hospice education committee meetings and events
d. Attends quarterly Infection Prevention and Control Committee
e. Assists with the organizational flu prevention program, hand hygiene program, and TB prevention program
9. Performs role as a Netsmart electronic medical record super user/trainer for all staff and collaborates with the IT Department with the following:
a. Organizes and or participates in Netsmart users groups (internal and external)
b. Reviews all release notes and gleans pertinent information for organization.
c. Communicates regularly with Netsmart customer support, and CH leadership to facilitate and coordinate optimal use of system.
d. Assists leadership with utilization of reports that can improve the workflow of their respective areas.
e. Participates in customizing assessments, modifying data definition files, and other data-base administrator functions, in coordination with leadership team.
f. Educates staff, clinical and non clinical in use of Netsmart during their orientation.
g. Facilitates use of NetsmartCares to assist clinical and management staff.
h. Researches and provides ongoing education on the uses of Netsmart applications.
i. Makes joint visits and facility observations with staff members to conduct clinical documentation training.
j. Trains staff according to staff schedule. Schedule will include occasional weekend training and evening/night shift training.
k. Travels to other Netsmart users or to regional users groups to collaborate on best practices, efficient use.
a. Minimum of 1 year successful experience in hospice education/staff development preferred with working knowledge of VNAA clinical procedures
b. Ability to speak to groups of people with varied education levels and be able to communicate effectively with people of all educational, cultural, religious, and socio-economic levels
c. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Publisher
d. Hospice and Palliative certification required within 1 year of hire and maintained
e. Must hold and maintain a current Maryland nursing license or compact state
f. The ability to lift, push, pull or move patients, equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of 50 pounds with or without the use of adaptive/assistive devices.
g. The ability to negotiate level and unlevel surfaces with or without the use of assistive devices.
h. Possession of sight, hearing, and manual dexterity to function with or without prosthetic use that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met
i. Registered Nurse with Maryland license required.
