Description

The Director of Marketing serves as a key member of the marketing leadership team, directing the development and execution of strategies that result in achieving ticket revenue and concert attendance goals for CSO, Pops, May Festival and related brands, while deepening patron engagement and loyalty.


With a passion and track record of consistently building and retaining audiences for orchestral music, the ideal candidate combines a data-driven approach with experience in strategies that effectively grow a subscription plus single-ticket audience base. The ideal candidate achieves this success leveraging their knowledge across a range of skill sets, including customer segmentation, media buying and creative direction. 


 Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Create and direct subscription marketing campaigns and strategy including email, direct mail, digital and telemarketing to achieve subscription revenue and attendance goals.
  • Work closely with CSO artistic administration to plan programming and packaging; Deeply understand audiences to drive subscription packaging and pricing decisions.
  • Create and direct the implementation of single ticket marketing campaigns and promotions for all performances across CSO, Pops, May Festival and related brands to achieve single ticket revenue and attendance goals.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Sales, track and analyze ticket sales, and be an active participant in developing ticket pricing strategies.
  • Manage single ticket, subscription and other marketing expense budgets; analyze effectiveness of marketing activities.
  • Oversee the development, execution and evaluation of industry-leading subscriber engagement and appreciation initiatives 
  • In alignment with brand identities, oversee the development of creative materials, including graphic design, copywriting, sales messaging and, in collaboration with digital content and communications teams, video, social media and other content 
  • Contract and manage relationships with freelance designers and consultants as necessary.
  • Manage a team of marketing professionals, including graphic designer and a manager each for single tickets and subscriptions as direct reports, along with supporting staff.
  • Support organization’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives as well as supporting a respectful organizational culture. 
  • Participate in rotation of CSO Point of Contact for concerts and events

  • Other duties as assigned 

Reports to: Vice President of Marketing 

Requirements
  • At least 4-5 years’ experience in music, marketing, communications or related field with proven track record of results; non-profit or performing arts experience a plus.
  • Innate curiosity, willingness to learn, and strong leadership skills.
  • Stellar project management and planning skills, verbal/written communication skills and the confidence to communicate results to various constituencies.
  • Ability to represent the CSO in a high-profile manner in the community. 
  • Creative, forward-leaning, adaptable to change.
  • Thrives in an extremely fast-paced environment with excellent judgment and ability to process information on the fly.
  • Ability to see the big picture and opportunities, while successfully executing detailed plans.
  • Proven effectiveness in working cross-functionally and collaboratively.
  • Some knowledge of classical and/or choral music preferred.
  • Experience managing people and working with volunteers a plus.
  • Tessitura/data analysis skills a plus.
Salary Description
$65,000 - $70,000
