POSITION SUMMARY

AmeriCorps members are individuals who serve in an approved national service position and are eligible, upon completion of service hours, to receive an educational award from the National Service Trust. AmeriCorps members bring a unique passion and commitment to service and to transforming lives of people and communities. At Branches, in partnership with Volunteer Florida, Inc., members serve in Grow and Climb.

  

The Grow & Climb lives out the Branches model of transformational relationships and delivers learning and enrichment opportunities to K-12 students in an afterschool setting.

Opportunity Excellence

  • Complete daily tasks effectively and collaboratively
  • Implement learning and enrichment opportunities that accelerate academic recovery and potential; support social, emotional, and spiritual resilience; and advance post-secondary readiness and success
  • Co-lead homework assistance activities for 60 minutes daily; group literacy activities for 30 minutes daily; physical fitness activities for 30 minutes daily; social-emotional learning activities for 30 minutes daily; and other enrichment opportunities for elementary-aged students in afterschool and summer settings with a 15:1 team member to student ratio
  • Co-lead academic enrichment activities for 90 minutes weekly; college and career readiness activities for 60 minutes weekly; social skills development activities for 60 minutes weekly; and other enrichment opportunities for students in middle and high school in afterschool and summer settings with a 15:1 team member to student ratio 
  • Animate activities that inspire active and joyful engagement; and exhibit the effort, commitment, and preparation necessary to develop activity plans that are creative and thorough
  • Adhere to grant compliance requirements (TCT, among others); Department of Children and Families licensure standards; and organizational policies as detailed in the Branches Employee Handbook and the Grow & Climb Operations Manual
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required or needed

Additionally, professional development trainings will be administered throughout the service year. 


LOCATIONS & SERVICE CONDITIONS

The majority of service is performed at one of our three locations: Florida City, South Miami, and North Miami. However, up to 20% of service is conducted in various parts of the Miami-Dade County at partner and program locations. Members are required to be available at least 34- 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and some weekends. Reliable transportation is needed as the position requires commuting to trainings, some of which may be on evenings or weekends 

Requirements

 AmeriCorps Minimum Requirements

  • The Member certifies that he/she is a United States citizen, a United States National, or a legal permanent resident and at least 17 years of age.
  • The Member certifies that he/she holds a high school diploma or its equivalent and has passed a proficiency test of reading.
  • The Member understands and agrees to complete one full year of full-time service in the Program for the time period defined under the Terms of Service section of this contract.
  • The Member agrees to submit to the training requirements of the Program including but not limited to First Aid/CPR. Introduction to Disaster, Diversity, Citizenship, and Life After AmeriCorps. Also, any required trainings as it relates to the site.
  • The Member agrees to submit to a fingerprint and FBI criminal background check as required by the service site and/or Program. Enrollment and eligibility of member is subject to successful background/fingerprint clearance. Member will be disqualified from service if the results are analyzed and found to be unacceptable to the service site or to the program.

Education and Experience

  • In addition to having a high school diploma or equivalent, some college is preferred
  • One year of experience in a nonprofit or ministry setting and/or after-school program
  • Successful experience in mentoring students
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English necessary; Spanish and/or Haitian Creole language skills are a plus
