Norfolk Hardware, a full service home center celebrating nearly 90 years in business is currently seeking a paint department manager to join our team. 


As the Paint Department Manager, you will be responsible to continue a long history of on independent, community based successful Home Center. You will  be charged with creating the best customer experience and THE place to shop. Managing and growing your team to be knowledgeable and focused on the customers’ needs and sales. The Paint Department Manager role is a great opportunity for a sales-minded manager to run a store within a store, while still having the support of the full team.

Requirements

Your Responsibilities

  • Manage the department operations in the most efficient manner while maintaining a clean and organized appearance for employees and our customers.
  • Manage staffing levels of paint team to ensure customers are serviced quickly, accurately and professionally, via in-person, phone or email.  
  • Train new hires and cross train current staff in paint tinting, mixing as well as application.
  • Actively manage paint inventory including stock and paint sundries
  • Understand the market and actively communicate with contractors about upcoming jobs, bids, etc. 
  • Work with Purchasing team on seasonal buys, special deals, and retail pricing. 
  • Ensure proper merchandising of paint, paint sundries and color selections are organized and filled. 
  • Work with vendors and SMEs (subject matter experts) to provide product training to department staff and other employees within the hardware store.
  • Continuously gather market trends and information from customers to target sales opportunities. 
  • May make outside sales calls as needed for large paint project/buys.

Your Experience & Capabilities

  • 5+ years experience working in a high-volume paint department
  • 3+ years sales management experience managing a team 
  • Extensive knowledge of paint specifications, tinting and vendors
  • Ability to price commercial sales
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Knowledgeable of merchandising concepts to drive sales
  • Proven sales and new business development attainment
  • Good aptitude with figures (gross profit generation, etc.)
  • Professional sales personality, demeanor and appearance.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean RMV record & able to driver vehicle for sales calls or to make deliveries to customer job sites
  • Proficient Microsoft applications and experience with POS systems
  • Able to perform the physicals requirements of the role including lifting and carrying (5 gal), bend, stoop, climb (ladders or stairs).
