MASS MoCA's growing in-house Communications team seeks a Graphic Designer for Marketing with a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven museum environment. Working with MASS MoCA’s brand standards and in close collaboration with the Graphic Designer for Exhibitions, the Graphic Designer for Marketing reports to the Director of Strategic Communications and Advancement and works closely with the Marketing, Communications, and Advancement Departments to manage the creative development and production of all aspects of MASS MoCA's institutional collateral material, including print and digital advertising, social media graphics, development collateral, live-event materials, merchandise, website graphics, and wayfinding.

The successful candidate will enjoy being part of a team that takes a collaborative approach to making art in a fast-paced, highly adaptive environment. The candidate must match a high standard of institutional design and pragmatic know-how with the ability to triage and work efficiently. Proven experience managing multiple projects with diverse working groups and simultaneous deadlines is crucial. The candidate must maintain a consistent level of quality and be a collaborative team player – this includes initiating critiques and constructing successful design systems and workflows.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communication, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of in-house or agency experience (museum/nonprofit experience preferred)
  • Expert typographic skills;
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; competence with Google Officee
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to collaborate closely with an engaged design, curatorial, marketing, and administrative staff;
  • Ability to absorb and apply constructive criticism;
  • Interest MASS MoCA’s mission is strongly desired

  • Ability to handle diverse, simultaneous tasks, meet deadlines, and attend to follow through;
  • Experience designing and installing exhibition graphics, signage and/or wayfinding is preferred;
  • Self-motivated, energetic learner;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading;
  • Extremely well-organized, goal-oriented and high attention to detail;
  • Energetic, positive, dependable and able to work as a team member. 

Work Conditions

  • The work week is Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend festivals and events 

Physical Requirements

  • For employment at MASS MoCA, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination will be required for employment.    

As defined by the National Labor Relations Act, this position is part of the bargaining unit for UAW Local 2110.
