Primary Responsibilities


The qualified individual will have both a technical background and experience in supporting sales and business teams. Technical experience in material processing, R&D and recycling operations will be used to support business innovation through the development of new collection and recycling supply chains for traditionally non-recyclable materials. The Director for Recycling Operations will lead the Global Recycling Operations team to identify, source, and on-board third party subcontractors to perform various processing services on a wide variety of TerraCycle waste streams. This role will require an innovation mindset and strong spirit of service. Solutions minded leadership, collaboration and communication across a wide range of technical and business stakeholders will be of the utmost importance for success in this role. Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high level of uncertainty, change and autonomy. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of various material processing including sortation, shredding or grinding, washing, drying, compounding, etc. This person will also have excellent interpersonal skills and project management skills with the ability to juggle moving pieces and shifting deadlines.



Responsibilities:

  • Gain a strong understanding of TerraCycle’s existing supply chain and material processing capabilities to support existing key account requests and development.
  • Partner with all commercial groups to support sales to develop new recycling programs, act as the go to person for clients questions, assist client calls when required.
  • Partner with all technical groups including R&D, waste regulatory and supply chain operations to support new business development. Evaluate commercial opportunities and frame supply chain requirements necessary to rapidly expand capabilities and close deals for new customers and waste streams.
  • Strengthen internal processes for evaluation of new business opportunities, sales support and communications regarding TerraCycle’s recycling supply chains.
  • Lead the Recycling Operations team to source, onboard and maintain all downstream processor and recycler relationships. Implement a strategic plan to expand TerraCycle’s processor relationships and recycling supply chains.
  • Implement standards outlined by compliance teams to ensure all recycling supply chains meet chain of custody and responsible business requirements.
  • Drive cost down/out of recycling supply chains while strengthening vendor relationships and contracts to secure competitive advantage against emerging competitors.



Requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in both technical and business support roles.
  • Demonstrable success in leading and supporting business innovations through partnership with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Prior management experience of technical stakeholders, preferably in the material processing and/or recycling disciplines.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to lead a wide range of stakeholders through projects including both technical and commercial nuance.
  • Ability to clearly outline and communicate ideas, challenges and strategies to senior leadership in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to think outside of the box to provide technical solutions to complex and innovative projects
  • Ability to lead with strength, conviction, confidence but also a spirit of service, empathy and positivity.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, along with excellent organizational skills to produce documents that are easily understandable for other stakeholders.
  • Periodically travel* within the US (1-2 times per month) to visit third party vendors during the on-boarding process.
  • Periodically travel* internationally (2-4 times per year) to visit third party vendors during the on-boarding process.
  • Maintain and use your own vehicle for local travel* to nearby vendor locations.
