Status: Full-Time; Exempt

Location: Kansas City, MO


You develop and manage the communications and marketing strategies to support the institutional voice and mission of Mid-America Arts Alliance. As a member of the marketing and communications team, you contribute to the implementation, evaluation, and analysis of our communications efforts and tools. You will strengthen M-AAA's programs by supporting awareness-building and branding efforts, and by communicating with local, regional, and national constituents and partners through creative marketing strategies.


You Will:

  • Manage and provide oversight of the creation, production, and distribution of collateral and media materials. This may include organizational brochures, newsletters, annual report, press releases, donor appeals, program promotional materials, and related collateral.
  • Draft original content about M-AAA and its programs, editing the work of others, and managing production of communication and promotional copy.
  • Cultivate media coverage in all markets, including arranging interviews, working on deadlines, and oversee the management of media contacts throughout the region and nationally. Organize, report, and archive any coverage.
  • Work with colleagues and constituents to share stories that illustrate M-AAA's impact.
  • With the Director of Marketing and Communications, lead the creation of a comprehensive M-AAA annual editorial calendar plan, including benchmark goals, strategies, and timelines.
  • As part of Marketing and Communications team, maintain brand identity for M-AAA and its multiple programs.
  • Strengthen communications with partners, including local and regional partners, Board members, staff, reporters and editors, and constituents, to build a network of friends, supporters, and program users.
  • Work with program staff to implement marketing and communications projects to expand the visibility and appeal of M-AAA programs locally, regionally, and nationally. This includes analyzing market research to further identify marketing and partnership opportunities among and between M-AAA and its constituents.
  • Contribute to and support plans to grow our visibility with foundations, corporations, and individuals through materials that support M-AAA events, sponsorship and underwriting opportunities, and other awareness-building activities.
  • Manage the work of the Graphic Design Coordinator including conducting performance reviews.
  • Be the team leader for programmatic marketing and communications projects to ensure brand identify and adherence to style requirements.
  • Assure that materials and communications are ADA compliant and equitable.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, including printers, photographers, and contract editors.
  • With the Director of Marketing and Communications, manage portions of the marketing and communications budgets.
  • Help with editing of documents, including grants, exhibition materials, and other M-AAA documents.
Requirements

You Have:

  • Bachelor in journalism, strategic communications, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years experience in communications and marketing
  • Strong writing and editing skills; knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style
  • Demonstrated understanding of news cycles, media relations, and working with deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of brand management is desirable
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office required
  • Knowledge of the Arts and related fields
  • Work as a member of a creative team
  • Light video editing experience


Working Conditions:


Most work is of a sedentary nature, sitting at a desk using a computer, phone, and other office equipment. While a majority of work occurs around a long-term plan, you may need to change priorities and manage additional projects with short-term deadlines that can require overtime.

Salary Description
$60,000 - $65,000 per year
